23 year old midfielder from Swindon Town
    ——————
We are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Ryan East, on an initial two-year deal!

The 23-year-old arrives at the Utilita Energy Stadium on an agreement which will keep him in West Yorkshire until at least the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, following the expiry of his contract at Swindon Town.

Having started his career at Reading, East moved to The County Ground last summer, making 23 appearances for Ben Garner’s side.

He spent a total of 11 years in the Royals’ youth ranks, after joining at the age of nine, becoming the club’s 50th academy graduate when making his first-team debut in the Sky Bet Championship against Leeds United in March 2019.

East said: “I am absolutely delighted to be here. It is a massive club with a proud history, and I cannot wait to get going.

When I met the manager, he sold it to me straight away. He wants to play a style of football that suits me. I like to have the ball on the floor and move it around.

“I think my time at Swindon sets me up well to play here. We did well last year, getting in the play-offs, and I want to go one better than that. The ambition of everyone at the club is clear.

“As a player, you do not want to go somewhere and be happy to sit mid-table. You want to be winning things, and I cannot wait to start playing in front of the fans.”

City manager Mark Hughes said: “Ryan is a player we are very excited about, and are really pleased to be able to bring to the club.

His intelligence - both in and out of possession - and reading of the game shows maturity beyond his years. He has the ability to dictate play, and fits in well with the brand of football we want to implement.

“At 23, he is still young and at a great age to develop, and we have been impressed by what we have seen of him so far in his career.

“We look forward to seeing him in action and are sure he is excited to show everyone at Bradford City what he can do.”

Sounds like either competition for Watt or his replacement.

That's out of the blue then. Not an inkling of a rumour about this signing.

Continuing with the theme of young players with a bit of experience in this league.

Not sure what type of midfield player he is, Watts replacement perhaps?

    Who?!

Competition for/back up for Elliot Watt?

Looks like a squad player on paper, never heard of the lad, and he has had limited first team football.

You need depth, though. Welcome, Ryan!

It's a long departure from the silly rumours on Twitter of 36 year old ex Premier League players

Guessing Mark Bowen gave the heads up on this one. A signing that doesn't get the pulse racing but we do need 1 or 2 in the middle of the park whether Sutton or Watt stay anyway. Might be a decent squad addition.

Just to add, just seen Parker has hinted in his tweet that he is Watt's replacement.

Doubt it. He'll have come to start. He's done the squad thing at Swindon and now wants to be in the team.

Bringing in players from clubs who've been in and around the promotion race is much better in my eyes than those from Scunthorpe and other relegation threatened teams.

Just a quick search so may be totally wrong but seems to be central and is sometimes described as 'defensive midfielder'. He'll be coming in to play one of the two central midfield roles in front of the defence I feel.

Sounds like he can fill in for Watt whether its suspension, rotation, form etc. If Watt goes we still need another anyway.

He's the replacement for Watt and will be starting. We'll need to bring in another central midfielder.

Signing these younger players is laudable, but I feel we now need some experience, players in their late 20s with hundreds of games under their belts.

    Thats Watt off then.

Can't say I know much about the lad, but it fits the profile of the type of players we're looking to sign.

Agree with that. Other than Songo and Ridehalgh, there isn't a huge amount of senior experience in the team now.

The slight concern is that he was released by Swindon...

I think the club have signed players and are releasing them one at a time for PR sale of tickets etc. We do need some more experienced players but I am sure they are in the pipeline.

Wait a minute fella - you have to earn your place in the team. He has obviously come to start but Mark Hughes tells him if he plays and its that simple.

Dont worry, according to the Twitter ITKs we are about to sign Charlie Adam and Aiden McGeady.
