Worryingly. Listening to that interview he sounded a bit clueless about why we had lost and performed so badly

 

We could see this weeks ago. I posted the “Defeat Incoming” thread before the Stockport game and was accused of being a doom monger. It was clear then that we were not far away from a poor run. We’ve not really put in a good complete performance all season.

Today was too slow, too predictable, like it has been most weeks. When we’ve played well it’s only been for half a game.

Hughes needs to get a grip of this situation sharpish.

 

I doubt he will though that’s what’s really worrying .............. it’s happened to many times this season and here we are in November and it’s still the same ........... thank god Lewis has been in top form because we could be a lot worse off

 

The Mark Hughes buzz is now over. His stubbornness to change, saying "As long as I am here this is how we will play" is basically telling the fans to go get stuffed - it's my way or nothing.

Well, Mr. Hughes, your "way" is not working, especially at home, is it?
Fans are bored gutless with the negativity in the play, the lack of midfield creativity, the slow boring sideways passing, players who have the opportunity to move forward with the ball yet for some reason stand still with it not knowing what to do, next to zero attempts at goal.........hell I could go on.
Now this may well work away from home but come on man.........at home we have to be entertaining and go for it!!

As much as Derek Adams was detested, at least he got one thing right when he said, "passing around the back four for ages doesn't win you games" So right DA.

I sincerely hope that Mark Hughes gets it right and takes us up but by hell, so far it seems to be a million miles away.

 

He seems baffled so here is 2 reasons the team is not performing.
1 The formation is easy to play against and does not suit the players.
2 The combination of Smallwood and Gillieard does not work and we lose emphasis and give the ball away to much and dreadful passing which the opposition take advantage of.
Until we change att least one of these we will struggle.

I sincerely hope not. What do Songo’O, East, Young and Oliver have to do to get in this under performing team. If it’s not improving he should change it. It hasn’t improved for weeks, I’d expect changes.

 

After getting Hughes on board and allowing him and Gent a free hand with regards players being brought in if this appointment goes wrong I don't know where we look as a club.
The situation with regards home our form will start playing on the players minds and if results are not forthcoming frustrations will start amongst fans, I get Sparkie wants to play the way he does but unless that style does not get results especially at home I can see both him and the team getting stick.
We saw his comment with regards "this is the way we'll play as long as I'm here" does he believe these players can't play a different system/formation at home, and continue with what has been very productive way of playing away from home.

 

I kept hearing on the radio how poor Smallwood's free kicks were during the game, 10 shots and not one on target really isn't good enough.

 

The set pieces and corners are the worst have seen in many a season. This is a puzzle because our assistant manager was the set piece Trainer for Doncaster. Before he came here. Bet they are relieved

 

You did the best thing by missing the game Dave (saw Paul also!) it was terrible. You could tell from the very first few minutes when walking pace couldn't even be upped what was going to happen.
Shocking all round (not one shot on target, easy game for their 'keeper), I think that even Smallwood, who was woeful, felt embarrassed at being given the MoM award that even the fans laughed at!

 

Would you start Angol Tuesday night on his performance today getting hooked at half time is a big statement from Hughes, what does it say when he does change it up top and he brings Cook on at the expense of Oliver.

Again only the radio to go by but they were saying Harrogate didn't even press us with a high line allowing us the ball which is pretty embarrassing in itself, they obviously thought they could defend anything we offered.

 

You were accusing him of being tinkerman last week Trevor. He’s actually the opposite of that unfortunately.

We have a squad to actually do something about it but Hughes doesn’t use it .......... there never gonna be any hunger if your guaranteed your place despite how bad you play .......... good I bet the squad players are even starting to get peed off with it Pereira has been crap for weeks now but I bet money that he starts him again on Tuesday ..........

 

We have a big squad but I'm not sure how the jigsaw pieces fit. We are a supposed passing side yet we regularly get outpassed in midfield. The back four and keeper generally do a good job but that front six has never really clicked as a unit.

 

Rumour has it if Pereira is fit he plays, I don't believe that for a minute but if it is I'm disappointed in Hughes letting Luton dictate the conditions of his loan, we can't blame Dion's poor form on a poor pre season as he was one of Luton's better players according to Luton fans who thought he deserved a chance to prove him self but he's no where near the player we saw for the last 6/7 games towards the end of last season.
