But Mezza didn’t go straight from a promoted non-league side straight into League1. He came to us from promoted York and then improved again over the next few yrs.

He certainly wouldn’t have been able to make the step up from York’s 1st team straight into our L1 side

That's my point. We took a punt on a promising non league player, and he improved each season he was with us. Why can't we expect to unearth similar gems?

On Nicky Law, if we want to be a footballing team you need someone in the side to keep possession of the ball and give it to others such as Mark Marshall to get behind the opposition back line. If we had had Mark still with us last season we would have made the playoffs IMO. Unfortunately he wanted to be back in't Sarf and we couldn't find a suitable replacement! Young Tyrell looks a likely lad for this roll going forward.

But we are wanting to go down similar lines? Just because the players targeted are released players from other club’s academies instead of players from a non-league side, doesn’t mean we aren’t wanting to find them and develop them.

It's the only strategy a club in our position can use. Unfortunately every club in the bottom two divisions bar the likes of Blackburn and Wigan, or ones with a big backer like Scunthorpe are looking at the same strategy. The only two clubs to make a success of it are Peterborough and Exeter, Peterborough being the biggest speculating club in either division. There aren't many of these 'lower league gems' to go around, if we are to snap the best ones up then its gonna cost money, like when Fleetwood spunked £100,000 on Vardy a few years ago. Now if Vardy was available on a free i expect we may have had a sniff around but once the transfer fee was mentioned we had no chance.
We have spent money last season, and although none of those have shown a rise on the investment, i hope that doesn't put the owners off speculating on potential lower league and non league targets.

He looks very promising does the lad similar to Tyrell but they only start if they are good enough not to prove a point IMO.

Player development seems to be the phrase of the summer and if there is one player that it should apply to its Jordan Gibson. Such a bright but raw talent that will need the right guidance. If he can bolt on an end product to the skill and pace that he possesses then we'll have an exciting player on our hands.

Gibson is a good test of the setup. We've scouted him and given him the opportunities last season, he needs to kick on over the next two seasons now. He's done the hard part by getting this two year deal but hes by no means the finished article so he needs to get his head down and work hard.

Because apparently you have to spend cash to get players that other clubs have developed. We can't do that for some reason.

Think last season proved that. You don't just play, you have to earn the right.

I agree but last season we had injuries to players who would normally be starters then they were injured and that tested the strength of our back up players and they just weren't up to it.

Wonder why they did that, especially when several on here had pointed out there was little to be gained with a deadline.

Your always going to get injuries and suspensions. I'd say Robinson and Gibson were up to it, Patrick at the beginning of the season, Dieng many classed as a back up, even Kai did a job when needed and looked better than Jones/Poleon has.
