Not sure how many times this needs explaining, but McGowan is NOT a right-back and will start as our right centre-back next season. So you need to revise your list to sign 2 RBs and just 1 CB (pref left-footed to challenge Killa)

 

Maybe Parker has also heard about Doyle ?.

 

He's comfortable doing both

Agree as he is clearly our best cb. Not only that, he's Aussie so possibly a "magic" skipper.

 

Normally I'd agree with that comment, but as we stand we have cover for CD whereas we don't have a right-back

 

Dave Evans was only 26 in 1984 it was the porn star tasche that made him look as old as hawley.

Too true; then again, almost 220 matches for Halifax would age one too! Podd, Evans, Oliver, Mitchell...some solid defenders back in the days of one's youth.

Calm down dear. McGowan plays at RB for Australia and did so at the last WC.

He also forged a career at Hearts playing RB. Yes, we can certainly use as a CB and probably will but he was actually brought in to cover both positions.

Happy to bring it n a decent CB to pair with Killa with McGowan at RB.

As I said, he’s not a RB and won’t play there next season. I know he played there in the early parts of his career, especially at International level. But for he hasn’t played there since June 2016 and, instead played as a centre-half, in the 4 appearances since.

From the data available, he has played some part, at RB, a total of 63 times. He has featured at CB a total of 95 times, the last of which was for us just before his injury. Whereas, he hasn’t played at RB since July 2016.

I refer back to my previous point. Rory McArdle played most of his early career as a right back. When we signed him from Aberdeen, he had just finished the season having played as a CB three times. In fact 13 of his first 14 appearances for us was as a RB. He only got his chance at CB when both Oliver and Davies picked up injuries against Burton at the end of October 2012. He never returned to the RB spot.

My point being, it is irrelevant as to where a player starts their career. It’s where they become accustomed to and McGowan is now a CB by nature and won’t be playing as a RB next season.

There was a rumour on here, but you don’t believe them all do you? I’ve seen nothing official yet, despite that claim being from over a week ago.

 

Don't think some people understand that assists and goals are important in football.

 

McArdle made his City debut at right back ahead of Stephen Darby.

 

For some of our fans, it appears that football started 20yrs later than that.

 

Yes he did and as I covered in a later post, kept that role until the Burton game when both Oliver & Davies went off injured. And from then on, he kept his more natural position.
