It seems reports of closure were premature but FoH has apparently been bought.

Really like the Flying Duck, and enjoyed a stay at the Crescent despite being full of cold.

Which Listers Arms? The one in the Dales?

The Fleece is operated by the Seafood Pub Company now, innit? Been wondering if it's any good so that's useful to know.

Not been to the Freemasons but I know it's up there as one of the country's finest Inns. Lists like this can be a bit arbitrary but there are some good looking spots on it: https://www.top50gastropubs.com

Got a week off at the end of August & can't decide if to get away or stay and tick off a few local spots.

The Hinchliffe just outside Hebden Bridge looks like a cracking boozer/restaurant.

Also want to do Elder at Piece Hall & Denmans in Shelf.

A group of us last visited the FoH in Leeds about 6 weeks ago. It's a regular meeting place after work. On this occasion we didn't stay long and some didn't even have a drink which must be a first! We were downstairs and it was very quiet and uncomfortably hot. I guess the two things were connected. It seems to have suffered badly recently with the hot weather and not having an outdoor area for its regular clientele. There's always somewhere else to visit in central Leeds.

The Hinchliffe is on my, ‘to go to’ list. Coin Clipper country, if you know what I mean. Will let you know if we make it over.

No it is the ‘Air Craft Hanger’ between the Box Tree and the Bar T’at. A soulless ‘Spoons’.

Definitely. I think it is even better. They have tables outside, a downstairs bar with some seating and a couple of levels upstairs inside, many with river views. The food and service are both very good indeed.

I went to The Crescent at Ilkey last week it was quiet at about 22:30, yet the Banyan place looked packed and the Ticket Office Bar was rammed. Not sure about the latter, great for Ilkley, so-so for Leeds, but it's at least being honest about being expensive "Can't afford it then FOOK OFF".............. it had an inordinate amount of middle aged winkers (like me) and young women. It was okkayy.

I haven't been in a while. Always enjoyed it but it seemed to lose some of its charm when it extended.

So has FoH stayed open? If so it sounds like a prepacked admin to clear debts off, probably from the shop

Yep, still open. I've read one guy (Horsforth brewery - a 1 man band) mention he won't get paid what he's owed now. Can't be easy for anyone involved.

Thing is if they have let people down by not paying them why would they sell to them again without getting cash up front. If I was him I would be straight round to collect any barrels that are his, full or empty

Central Bradford is dying a slow painful death. been working there a fair bit lately, i didn't realise how bad it actually was. If i want to venture out for something to eat or drink i venture out to Halifax or its surrounding areas like Sowerby bridge.

I have friends who run a brewery. They are springing up all over the place, as pubs shut, Micro breweries open (sounds crazy but check out SIBA info). Additionally there are the ‘big new boys’ like Saltaire and Ilkley, and the slightly smaller Northern Monk and Kirkstall. They all want venues (free of tie mainly) to take their beer. There are also breweries who behave in a similar manner (Copper Dragon anyone). So there is no shortage of people trying to sell their beer, who will take a ‘risk’.

Apparently the City Gent is reopening as The Old Penny Bank on Saturday.

That place has changed names more times than most pubs

Indeed, yet what an interior! Should be cleaned up and lit properly, with that ceiling (aesthetics and height) and pillars that pub could/should be Bradford's classic upmarket boozer, the equivalent of The Adelphi, Victoria Hotel or Whitelocks in Leeds....................but where is the clientele?

I can remember when it was a restaurant. Food was really good and as you say the building is amazing. Didn't last long
