I buy mine at "The Butchers Shop". Really good quality at decent prices. The bangers are £2.50 for 6 or 3 packs for £6 which I think is great value, and they do lots of flavours. Like yourself, I need to cut down on my UPF intake, admittedly I haven't looked at the content of these sausages as it is a proper chain of butchers and very little fat comes off them when cooking, but I will have a look at the labelling and see if it says anything. Not sure where you are located but they have a few branches dotted around South Yorkshire, plus one in Wakefield and one in Stanningley. The Steak pies are to die for and only £4.90 which easily feeds 3-4 people

Wasn't sure where to post this so thought I'd start in here. Looks just the place for aspiring car wash magnates

You need to play the video :joy:

Went out in Leeds with some ex colleagues. We went to Viva, a little Italian restaurant next to the bridge on Lower Briggate. I've been there before but some time ago. It's a small family run place that serves up the sort of fare you would expect. It is standard stuff but done very well for what it is. The prices are reasonable and the service friendly and excellent. The ambience is nice and our small group of 7 could chat without a lot of noise or music.
I had insalata caprese, pollo Milanese and a creme brulee for pud. They do an early bird between 5 and 7 pm, 3 courses for £21.95, but a limited menu.

An unexpected dinner out yesterday. Had horrendous journey home from visiting friends in Ilkley with awful flooding notably between Burley and Menston. OH goes out to catch train to Ilkley for his Italian class Christmas celebration. Train cancelled due to flooding, so I pick him up and set off to Ilkley again, via Silsden this time. His lovely group asked me to join them (I hadn't met them before) and we ate at The Vine. I quite enjoyed my meal. The scallop starter with roast apple, pancetta, celeriac puree and saffron dressing was very good indeed.
Restaurant seems popular, it was quite busy.

Went for lunch in Leeds yesterday. We wanted to avoid another 3 course Christmas special - we had an indifferent meal at the Beekeepers annual event, this time at Northcliffe Golf Club, where I think most of the offerings came direct from a Brakes lorry. The lemon tart was inedible.
So we chose Olive and Thai in the Queen's Arcade.
The starters were mixed. The chicken satay and the vegetable spring roll were lovely but the gyoza and fish cake average.
For the mains my king prawn pad thai was disappointing. Lots of nice prawns but nothing much else besides noodles, bean sprouts and egg, quite boring. I had menu envy though. OH chose roast duck in teriyaki sauce. It looked great and OH said it was very good. If we went again I'd stick to the chef's specials.
A big drawback to our experience was the ambience. Service was good but the building is not designed to be a restaurant. Downstairs there are tables outside (too cold) and only 3 tables inside. The door was continually opening and closing as Just Eat drivers came to collect deliveries.
The rest of the tables are on the 1st floor, where the tiny kitchen is hidden behind a bamboo screen.
If you wanted to visit the loo that was up a further flight of almost vertical stairs to the 2nd floor. Almost impossible for anyone with any sort of mobility issue.
Prices very reasonable. So good points and some negatives. For a tasty lunch if you are nearby not bad, but I wouldn't make a special trip.
Very oddly, a couple of women were seated at the table next to us just before we left. One of them had brought her cat with her!?!

Meant to put this on. Went last week. If you are prepared to pay, then it is excellent quality, cooking and service. All washed down with a couple of pints of Taylor’s! What is not to like.

The White Swan at Fence. https://www.whiteswanatfence.co.uk/eat-drink/ About a 25 mile drive from Bradford, but well worth the trip. It is actually a Timothy Taylor tied pub. Booking is essential.

A couple of weeks ago we went to what I thought was my favourite curry house! Shimla Spice at Shipley. We took some friends who hadn't been before. We each had something different, a couple of us ordering medium/hot and the others ordering medium. None of us managed to get much more than halfway through. All our main dishes were just too chilli hot for 4 seasoned curry eaters.

Back in the darkest past when Curries were limited to:- Curry, Madras or Vindaloo, I use to go for Vindaloo I am now down to something between Curry and Madras. Too hot……is just that.

That’s strange. Shimla Spice at Shipley has been my go to curry spot for several years. I always order off the desi Karahi selections and go for medium. Never had anything ridiculously hot. It’s a while since I’ve been. I wonder if the chef has changed?

Yes we always go off the desi menu too and expect it to be a bit hotter but it's the first time I've struggled, and it wasn't just me. It wasn't as thought they had just chucked in an extra spoon of chilli powder, it was obviously fresh chillies. Maybe they were an extra strong batch!

Strange that people mention too hot curries, we called in the Nawaab on Bolton Rd the other week (Wednesday 2 mains for 1).
A couple near us told the waitress their curries were too hot, and when ours arrived we had the same problem.
Let them know it was not a medium by any stretch.

Rhubarb in Harrogate. It's not quite got 'it' - but a tasty meal for a decent'ish price, in a town devoid of decent eateries (Stuzzi and Paradise being the exception).
    Decent wine list too.

Can anyone recommend somewhere decent for a Sunday lunch that isn't one of the chain places? Struggling to find somewhere. Thank you
