I was surprised too. Infinitely more so than Huddersfield where we went for a nightcap.

Went to the Forest Side, Grasmere for the wedding anniversary. Excellent meal, wine, service, hospitality.
I certainly recommend for a special occasion.

We had a nice stay at the Clarendon with a good walk earlier in the afternoon.
The menu for the evening meal catered for 2 different clientele, pub grub and more refined dining.
The pub grub side was sausage and mash, fish and chips etc. As we were celebrating an anniversary we went for the more fine dining option.
I had a lovely first course. Pigeon breast, mushroom raviolo, smoked garlic puree, cep and red wine jus. OH had Whiby crab with red pepper puree. We both had pan fried stone bass with lobster bisque and mussels for main. The cooking was very good indeed.
I think the place is short of staff. There were 2 young girls running the bar and waiting on tables. It was clear they were very inexperienced. Most diners drank beer or wine by the glass. We ordered a bottle. It had a cork. Girl behind the bar couldn't manage to open it using a corkscrew. Another customer had to open it for her.
Overall I enjoyed our stay. Our room was nice, the food was excellent, the atmosphere relaxed, but service a bit amateur. Definitely a pub, not a hotel.

    Pleased you enjoyed it.

You can walk from Hebden to the Wharfe and then down to the Craven Arms at Appletreewick which is one of my favourites.

We went in the other direction. Down to the Wharfe then via Linton to Grassington then back to Hebden via High Lane. Nice short walk.

A bit out of area, but the George and Dragon at Clifton, just off the M6 is really worth a visit. We had a night there on the way South from a trip to the Highlands. Food was good, service and drink. A good option if you want to travel at a leisurely pace and avoid the ubiquitous and often bland Service Stations. https://georgeanddragonclifton.co.uk/eat/

Right here I am doing @millario@millario 's job for him again :joy:. Just kidding.
2 new ones to report, one good, one pretty average.

Bukhara "Steak and Curry" house in Headingley. We were hoping for good things as it's fairly local, but sadly very average. I had one of the special curries. It was a bit bland and came on a plate with rice and salad. When I told the waiter I thought curry and salad on the same plate was a bit of an odd combination he said "yeah I know, it's just wrong innit" :joy:. On the plus side the staff very pleasant. Oh and it's not licensed and you can't BYO.

Next Pranzo Italian, new on Horsforth Town Street (been yet @Fordy117@Fordy117 :)). They also have a place in Ilkley. This was pretty good. Smallish menu. Mainly home made pasta plus a few specials. No pizza. Interesting wine list. For us whose eyes are bigger than our bellies, most of the pasta dishes can be served with a burrata on top. Bit strange at first because the pasta is hot and the burrata chilled, but I soon got used to it. It's a bit on the pricey side but a more refined experience than the other Italians in the area.

    End of report :grinning:

Can anyone recall where the Mona Lisa coffee bar was in Bradford.
I thought it was in Forster Square but turns out this was The Garden of Eden (source T&A archives).
Maybe they were the same place and there was a name change.

I see that even Burger King has given up in the Broadway centre, not sure how much further we can fall.
The farcical statement regarding Sakkusamba closing for 'refurbishment' will take some beating though.

I wonder if BK shutting down has anything to do with it being non-halal. It seems other food outlets nearby that offer halal, do good sales

Back to the Shibden Mill Inn. Excellent food and drink once again. If you are after quality, and are prepared to pay a little more, then this place is definitely one of the best.

Rated as the 17th best in the country and the highest rating in West Yorkshire. https://www.top50gastropubs.com/list/1-50

The Star at Harome and the Angel at Hetton, both in North Yorkshire, have higher rankings. However both have a Michelin Star and the quality is reflected in the price.

Still a belter isn't it. Head chef left and his brother replaced him. Interesting to see if anything changes style-wise. I noticed Sausage and Mash was back on the classics, and nowt wrong with that!

Went to the Classic Persian opposite St Lukes Hospital on Friday evening, absolutely spot on and you get plenty. £117 for 6 of us including soft drinks (take your own beer). Cannot knock it at all

    Slightly off-track but during last weeks mini heatwave i was darn sarf attending youngest lads graduation and at lunch time tried Amorino gelato(posh ice cream) parlour;
as the weather was baking hot went for scoops of raspberry sorbet/pineapple and mint and lime and basil
    was revived!!
    wanted seconds
    possibly thirds

Anyways, checked their website and they have a store in leeds- Victoria Gate/George Street
Will have to try it, although knowing my luck next time i hit leeds it will be proper yorkshire weather, some reet downpours
