I think that’s on the corner where the Thai place used to be. I’ll have to give it a try

Good call this. Just finished my Railway Curry takeaway after chicken lollipop and fish Amritsar starter. Pacifying my sweet tooth now with some gulab jamun :snigger:

The San Carlo chain, is a good option when you are out and about. They have several venues in Manchester. My preference is the San Carlo Cicchetti https://sancarlo.co.uk/restaurants/cicchetti-manchester/ well worth a visit if you are in town. Opposite the larger San Carlo, which is fine, but perhaps just a bit too busy.

Been to countless places in Krakow and Zakopane in the last week or so. All decent scran but then good grub is probably wasted on me. Lovely Italian place called Bocannera, had pasta and some seafood with shells on, I'm guessing they are mussels or cockels I'm no expert on seafood. Bloody lovely but then I think that about a shawarma on Manningham Lane. Coming to these places makes me realise how pathetic the centre of Bradford is for food.

That’s certainly true. Great choice if you want a curry but really bugger all else to excite the tastebuds. Ilkley, Otley, Harrogate and, of course, Leeds, all better options for choice of other cuisines.

It's the worst city centre I've ever visited. Bar the odd gem of Victorian architecture it has no discerning features at all. Even Halifax has better places to eat.

All the major white collar employment has gone from the city centre - building societies, tax office, post office etc. So there’s no lunchtime or early doors evening trade anymore. So it’s reliant on people travelling into the city centre and no one does that when they could go to Leeds, Ilkley or Harrogate. So no prospect of new non-curry restaurants opening in the foreseeable future, unless the new Odeon music venue draws enough punters in from outside.

Even 50 years ago I'm struggling to remember any decent restaurants in Bradford. There was the Berni inn mentioned in another thread and of course Mama Mias. The mexican place was good for a few years but I'm struggling then. I'm sure people will come up with a few others

There used to be a decent Italian place down a little alley off Kirkgate but I can’t remember its name. But, no, there’s never been much apart from curries since I moved here in 1980.

    Bit of a black day for Skipton;

Keelham Farm shop and restaurant shut today with staff only being told they had lost their jobs today
Aagrah Skipton to shut in early Jan

*Robertshaw Farm shop not affected by Keelham going bust.

Given the awful conditions getting in and out of Bradford at rush hour (what a mess), I've taken to calling in to the Exchange pub under Waterstones occasionally after work. Always steadily busy at that time, and on the food front they now offer Pieminster pies which look decent.

I wonder what the new market's food offering will be. I was told at the beginning that they didn't want it to be a food court such as the one at Broadway, but one with independent traders, more akin to Trinity Kitchen in Leeds.

We are venturing to Halifax for the afternoon tomorrow. Any recommendations of somewhere decent for scran greatly appreciated.

Will also be venturing around Halifax tomorra.

Knead does excellent pizza. Ricci's Place (nextdoor to Knead and same owners) has potential to be a great bustling bistro but, despite its popularity, a couple of evening meals there have been disappointing. (Did have breakfast there once which was top notch, in fairness.)

    Julio's is Halifax's version of a crowd-pleasing Italian. There's a new-ish Turkish place but can't comment as haven't been.

Cafe Passion (terrible name) also does Persian style food. Rough and ready, in a good way, although prices are now more akin to 'proper restaurant' levels.

La Luna is popular and decent if a little broad in scope (i.e summat for everyone).

True North, within the Dean Clough complex, is consistently good.

Meandering Bear does a good line in food-to-drink-with: yer pies and yer cheeses, etc.

Can't comment on Las Pampas so do report back.

We'll be taxi-ing up to the Shibden Mill Inn. Always excellent but a couple of miles from the centre.
