Knee jerk reaction to a bad day at the office. Southend deserve credit for scoring 4 class goals.

 

That first goal of theirs was brilliant. Yeah, it wasn't from 30 odd yards like the other two, but the way he hit it with the outside of his boot, in such a small amount of time/space, was exceptional. If I was in the Kop, I would have applauded that goal.

 

It’s difficult to comprehend that this is the same team that thrashed Rochdale, Walsall and Stanley only weeks ago.

We win 4-0, 3-0, then lose 3-0 and 4-0. Mind boggling.

 

Agree and wonder if tinkering with the formation had anything to do with it? Playing Caddis in midfield at Barnsley was suicide tactics IMHO.

 

I hope it was just another bad day at the office(We have certainly had a few). Silly thing is, we know they can play but midfield was non existent today, hence all the aimless booting upfield. O'Brien was having a bad day(missing his namesake?) and Akpan doesn't look as though he cares. For all the calling of Doyle, there was no way he was going to outjump their CDs. Would have been more interesting if we had kept the ball down like we were doing in December.

 

Or just another day for an average league one team - the reason we're in league one is inconsistency!

Can't believe all the doom and gloom just cos we got beaten by four VERY well taken goals.

That first goal, before we'd even really got into the game, gave them a massive boost of confidence. Even after that we ket on fighting and then they scored a second great goal.

They were definitely the better team on the day, but I think 0-4 flattered them, but that said, we only had a handful of proper chances on goal.

Clearly, we need to strengthen the squad, but the fat lady hasn't even cleared her throat yet. There's plenty of time, and even without any additional inbound players we already are a better team than we saw today.

Let's learn from it, put extra effort into some much needed reinforcements, and kick-on.

If it wasn't for that we'd have earned a very good 0-0 draw.

 

I thought we got away with one, keeping them at 4. That was as bad as any performance this season, including Wycombe.

 

4-0 didn’t flatter them one bit. We were truly awful, not one thread of positivity can be taken from today. Hopefully this ‘blip’ can be rectified next Saturday.

By any standard, this was a very poor performance. There were players on the pitch today who are stealing a wage. Chicksen will be pleased he wansn't there to be scapegoated.

 

But their goalie made a great save in the second half. Absolutely remarkable as he was surely suffering from frost bite at half time.

 

A mid table team murdered us. They played well but we made them look like a top Championship side. They may have scored great goals but the score line did not flatter them. It may have been a bad day at the office but the players did n’t perform and our coach did n’t make any effort to turn it around and change anything until the game was lost. We only have a plan ‘A’. Bad day all around. Why did we continue to hoof to their commanding defence? Need some quality and leaders.

 

Miller should have scored. Decent enough save but either side of him it goes in.
