I personally will be dissapointed if The Pulse no longer cover Bradford City games. Generally I preferred their coverage. It was commentary for the Bradford City fans given by a passionate Bradford City fan.

Was it biased? Absolutely it was and they made no apologies for this. Why wouldn't it be? The coverage was intended for the Bradford City fans and subsequently needed a degree of passion and bias to make it come across exciting - which was very hard last season. It also provided for raw emotion. Thornton could sometimes let his passion take over at times but it really captured the raw emotion of a genuine fan.

I appreciate it wasn't for everyone and acknowledge some people prefer a more balanced representation of the match. However, it absolutely met my requirements when I couldn't make it to games and was grateful for such coverage.

Andy Kiwomya. Jesus wept. Might as well listen to paint dry.

That isn't strictly the case, they probably do want it. The Competition & Markets Authority are due to rule on Bauers take over and whether it gets the green light (which it will IMO) by July 24th. In the interim period, I'm certain they won't be able to sign off anything long term, especially programming based. If you look at all the stations in the Wireless group, not a single one of them have confirmed sports coverage in their respective patches.

In the end, Bauer may decide to run them as separate businesses in which case, a deal could be made. Would then depend on resourcing. But Bauer don't really do sport and all the signs point to streamlining across the country to go up against Capital and Heart. I hope for the former so my ex colleagues get to keep their jobs. For me, much more important than commentary rights.

City will always be third in line behind Leeds and Huddersfield on Radio Leeds. So get used to crap AM reception, constant DAB drop-outs, and waiting until they've finished talking about the other two at full time before we get a look in. And careful you don't fall asleep at the wheel listening to Kiwomya.
Pulse was pretty poor but at least it cared about City.

Listening on Ifollow I get what I'm given really.

Not a big fan of Kiwomya but it was nice to listen to Tumble or Jonesy from time to time. I bet they have a contract with Kiwomya for a set number of games but if they switched it around more often it would be better.

Reading this thread you have to smile we had two free opinions of listening to how our team were performing if we couldnt get to the game, yet reading some comments you'd think it was compulsary to listen to one or the other.
Only Bradford City fans could get so worked up about football, I dont know how some would have coped when you only had "The Pink" to read about your teams explots away from home that is if you didn't catch the "Final Score" from the BBC on the crystal box regarding how your team had done.

Pulse any day. More passion & better reception on DAB.
Radio Leeds will still have City on AM (archaic).

Derm Tanner was my favourite. Authoritive without the bullshit. Very BBC (well, in the old days, anyway).
For what it's worth, having been abroad for more than 20 years now, access to any kind of coverage of City games has always been a bonus. Tanner and the BBC is the benchmark for me now.
Tim Thornton on the Pulse wasn't bad but I can't stand the hard sell of commercial coverage of sport, not just the intrusive adverts, which I hate with a passion.

When we lost the Beeb for a while then got Jason Thornton on the Pulse, I thought I'd lose my mind. He was awful in the beginning. Being a passionate fan is one thing but there is still a need to contextualise and be professional. All too often Jason D Thornton was either outraged at something without fully explaining it - usually involving the evisceration of a hapless referee, talking about how he would've dealt with some passage of play because he played football too, or how chummy he was/ wanted to be with the players. To be fair, he's got better and I surprised myself this last season by listening to pre match coverage on the Pulse then, after BBC West Yorks Sports iFollow commentary, switching back to the Pulse for post match coverage (thanks to the well-timed flicking of a switch by producer @EwanJM@EwanJM) because BBC WYS would focus more on L**ds and Udders. However, I can't help feeling that the younger Thornton is desperate to join his brother on the Sky circuit.
The BBC's Tim Steer, the only one available on ifollow this last season though, is Mr Bland. The perfect embodiment of the current state of the BBC. I dare say he'll improve but, while he sometimes seems too desperate to be liked, it's mostly that he lacks the gravitas of the likes of Tanner.
Amdy Kiwomya is a strange one. I do think he makes quite a lot of sense - he obviously does know football and can explain things pretty well from a pro's perspective. My only problem with him is that his voice is quite monotonous which does detract from his insight at times.
All in all, another season of the Beeb's part-time coverage of City matches means what I gain in having no ads, I lose in having to put up with news on those other West Yorks teams. What is Derm Tanner doing these days, anyway?

Dave I can still remember waiting for the pink Yorkshire Sports to be delivered to the local newspaper shop in Denholme to find out how City could have lost 9-1 at Colchester a week before we were due to play Arsenal in the cup.
    Happy days?

Would rather Pulse, not into the whole serious commentary on sports bores me. As above Kiwomya is the most dull commentator I’ve ever heard.

Imagine we’ll be behind Leeds and Huddersfield on the crap frequency, thankfully get to most games so won’t need to listen to it.

We queued up outside the local newspaper shop around 5ish and when we saw the T&A van pulling up raced to get the strapped up bundle to hand them in at the shop then stood outside reading what the days results meant to our relegation fight or our promotion battle, the former usually being the case :(.

I don’t get some idiots mentalities tbh. People are celebrating on Twitter, just ignore it if you don’t like it what’s the harm at least there was more choice. Now people might have lost their jobs and we’re shoved on a crap frequency, all while getting to listen to the dull and monotone Radio Leeds commentators. Think I’ll just get my updates on Twitter and here if I’m not at the game.

At least McKeown won’t be on each week, could bore a glass eye to tears.

I used to rip the Pulse for its rose tinted coverage but anything has to be better than Kiwomya, a surefire cure for Insomnia.

No one has mentioned Tim Steere - nice fella and all that but not in the same league at Derm Tanner in the old days. Also needs better questioning too, his first questions is ALWAYS “What we’re your thoughts on that?” Change the record a bit.

Will miss The Pulse, which had the much better coverage out of the two stations IMO.

It has now been officially confirmed that Pulse will no longer provide match day commentary. In my opinion, a shame to be honest

They are the same. Pulse didn’t get that show sponsored last season so will have swallowed quite a bit in hard cost over the season. That will be a factor. They’ll measure audience, probably not great after last season, plus with Bauer taking over, its the right time to let go. Bauer do not do sport, true local radio is slowly being eroded and was one of the reasons I got out.

Kiwomya is crap but Thornton is 100x worse with the shite he spouts every week so it's the lesser of two evils I guess.

good. Pulse commentary is horrendous. we get a throw in and any non regular listener could be forgiven for thinking we've just won the FA Cup given the reaction it gets.
