    We always used to have them just before the summer holidays. I wasn’t a sprinter, but did well in the longer distances. My sister was sprinter won a toy fully working sewing machine, which I was very envious of lol. I see your Mum taught you how to be a gentleman:)

    I kid you not but when I was at Bede's, I was volunteered to help measure javelin and discus chucking. (Or was I still at George's?)

    A very sad story out of school javelin throwing back in the 70s. A kid was killed at either Edmund Campion or Rhodesway as a result of a miss thrown javelin. Can you imagine what would happen today over that ? Didn't stop us at Thornton still chucking the javelin; the discus and putting the shot. On Sports Day. PE meant PE in those days can well recall Mr Race (I kid you not ) our PE Teacher sending us all back round on a cross country run up Clayton because we took a short cut !. It was minus temp and sleeting snow. But second time round we had to do it in skins ! ..made us it did.

    No chance we will ever play Leeds in pre season as the police costs would be way too much which is the reason why most of Leeds's pre season matches are nearly always in the south.

    Would have thought Guiseley Farsley Harrogate & BPA would have wanted crowd pulling opposition and a team to measure their squads progress against
    Don't think any of the SouthYorks clubs would be interested in playing us
