Wetherall is the ultimate “emperors new clothes” footballer.

 

I always got carried away with the big names, forgetting they were actually on their way down. Gillespie, Hendrie, Sharpe, Newell. Then there’s those with reputations up in Scotland, forgetting their top league is the same standard as our bottom. Petta, Juanjo plus everyone Jefferies signed.

 

Gillespie was shocking, Hendrie (?) thought you meant John 'til I remembered Lee..

 

To have our club go into administration again, I would have thought that would be a disaster not worth contemplating.

 

Ok, so he has 3 relegations and a “near miss” on his CV.

Well actually, if you look at his wiki page, he'd scored four goals for the past six teams he'd played for before joining us. Then he scored a total of thirteen goals for the next eight clubs he played for - and that included five for us. 256 goals in 829 total career appearances. Proper journeyman striker, with just a few seasons of being prolific. I heard he was more interested in following the horses instead of training when he was with us (and probably a lot of other teams too).

 

If it got Rupp out of the club it might be worth carefully considering. Otherwise we're just dying a slow death where even the most optimistic outcome is treading water.

 

Having no club because we want Rupp out is not worth considering, happy if we have a suitor interested in buying the club.

 

Nobody mentioned not having a club. I honestly don't think it would come to that but if Rupp isn't replaced soon then it may well become a distinct possibility.

 

Well if we’d been promoted everyone would say he was part of a team that got promoted 3 times. No different then if you’re relegated.

Maybe I’m spoilt, I started going to City with my dad in the 84-85 season so saw what real heroes were. This was repeated in the 98-99 promotion season. That’s a bunch of players I regard as quality.

Unfortunately I’m not one who is happy with mediocrity which is a trait of most City fans. Accepting failure is another. For all his critics I can see where Fordy comes from a lot of the time.

Wetherall played for City for 8 years. Our slide down the leagues was frighteningly bad. He was a part of it regardless of whatever else was going on. I can’t name any other player with 3 relegations on his CV whilst at City.

 

On your definition of success McCall the manager is on this list !!!

So if he’s left at the time of first admin he wouldn’t make the biggest pound for pound let down list?

 

Or if he’d gone to Man City like he was so desperate to do. If he’d have left as a 2nd tier player (whatever the championship was called back then) he wouldn’t have excelled himself with 2 further relegations.

 

Bruno Rodriguez for me , think we paid half a million for the loan , managed two and half games or something like that, then skulked off back to France

 

Sorry mate the two don't go together, you've been supporting the club since the 1984/85 season 35 years I'd say during that time you can hardly say " I'm not one who is happy with mediocrity which is a trait of most City fans" because take the odd promotion/Cup run out and that is all we've seen as fans during those times, I can assure you the previous 25 years or so were hardly any better.
