Cloughies teams like to play good footie. The last three matches we've had with them have yielded lots of goals. So yes, 0-0!!

 

Great summary and yes, I think that's the problem.

We've seen all the teams and realise that really we're as good as any - but had brain fades against Orient and Northampton and didn't turn up for the annual away defeat at Carlisle.

But on the other hand, I was impressed by how we held off Walsall (best team for me) and those Salford wins plus Mansfield away were also very good.

And that just means, really we can do - but not if the players lack belief and wimp out like we did against Rochdale.

 

I think Stockport are typical of L2 teams.

After they beat us and then Salford away, the pressure is off - they relax, play good footie and surge up the table.

Suddenly, to realise that they are firmly in a promotion race and get a bit of a 'squeaky bum'.

I was unimpressed by how they seemed to lose heart against us. After 60 minutes, we were comfortable and all they did was argue with the ref - similar to us against Rochdale!!

 

I mentioned in another post that a lot of teams have not had that "bad run " yet so things could change, ,City have had theirs,[i believe] Northampton are wobbling and Orient are struggling, so there is still hope.

It is. I’ve got a tenner on him at 21/1 to be league 2 top scorer. He’s currently joint top with 16 goals.

please don’t compare Parkys side to this showed that team had a plan and it worked this lot ffs are clueless ........, Parkys team would have probably gone straight up had they bombed out of the cups early doors ......... what’s this lots excuse .............and some on here thought Parkys hoof ball style wasn’t deemed good enough for us ..............

Oh dear remember it well. Never mind the battering. It was the first time all season I drew Bobby in our pre match pub sweepstake for first scorer......and I think Ces or someone equally unlikely got our first.

 

Sadly I expect our manager not to go for it and employ the usual formation and tactics

 

Depends on how we line up. I think he'll go with the same line up as at Stockport but i'd like to see us with Nevers, Walker and possibly Chapman back in the side.I'd also like Andy Cook to start but don't think thats happening.

 

he simply has to go for it or he’s seriously gonna cost us a lot of money in the long run if he actually went out to go beat teams and we could see that the intent was there then folk would be in the whole happy ............ but to set us up not to lose and hope we muster a goal out of 2/3 shots on target simply won’t do ............ honestly I simply don’t get him .......... last season the Tranmere game down to 10 men and we should have easily won that game with what we created ............ why can he not Robert back to that ????? I’m sure thousands bought season tickets in the back of them sort of performances last season

 

Seems like he is driving a narrative. I thought exactly the same. Posts like this frustrate me.

I wasnt happy with the Clayton signing but not sure it makes us weaker. Id argue it doesnt really improve us.

Songo and Angol are no loss. Doesnt really matter who we brought in to replace.

Wright is a loss. I think Young is a mistake. We will see if Foulds is although I did think we needed to improve the LB spot. Time will tell!!!

Anyway my assumption is...

Bola - Foulds
Kelly - Kelleher
Clayton - Songo
Nevers - Wright
Derbyshire - Angol
Costelleo - Young

Osadebe on his way back. Ridehalgh will be an option. Id still argue we gained Walker this window too. We look better than 3 months ago on paper.

 

Were you saying that when we lost 6 and won just 2 of 13 matches from late December 2012 through to March 2013.

Parky certainly wasn't getting any credit for the cup run after that 4-1 defeat at Exeter. Amazingly, some reckoned he had two or three matches to get things sorted or else!!

You obviously, remember those impatient fans, but seem strangely unsupportive when we're in a slightly better position now.

I can't believe we have people on here questioning that Hughes doesn't want to play positively. Were you not at the Salford match?

Just because we don't play two up front doesn't mean that the intention is to be defensive. Prior to the new formations, we were not executing the plan very well - that's doesn't mean Hughes is some kind of defensive manager.

Your 2/3 shots on target is another myth. In our previous four matches, before Stockport, we had 5 against Harrogate, 7 against Salford, 4 against Rochdale and 5 against Wimbledon.

Furthermore, we're one of the highest shots per game / shots on target of anyone in L2.

What exactly are you after? I agree that it's been frustrating at times - but to imply that Hughes now plays negative style footie, all because he sensibly went tight against Stockport, is bonkers!!!!

 

If it's the tactics that produced 21 shots on target in the four matches prior to Stockport, then I fail to see what's "sad" about it.

L2 is not a division where teams produce average 10+ shots on target per game.

To give you some perspective, the team that produces the most shots is Swindon at a rate of 10.1. We are are 7th with an average of 8.4. Note that both Carlisle and Northampton have a lower rate.

 

I assume you have watched our performances so its not hard to see what's sad about it. I'm not doubting your stats but it sure as hell doesn't feel like more than 5 shots on target per game. I suppose we might have headed into the keepers hands or rolled a ball to him from 20 yards, and they count as shots on target, but I can't remember being out of my seat 21 times because we have had a solid strike on goal forcing the oppo keeper into a good save

 

As I said in this thread. It's L2. Lots of shots on target, simply doesn't;'t happen.
