They were average their striker was crap
But the attacked with speed when given the opportunity where we attacked too narrow with the speed of an armadillo

They won't be in the top 2 at the end of the season if they are I'll happily Bob 20 over to the burns unit

This is the same Hope Akpan who has failed to win 80 % of the games he's played in since August 2016?

We've signed a statistical marvel, a guy who just does not win games.

At Blackburn, they won 7 of the 29 games he appeared in across all competitions.
At Burton, they won 5 of the 29 games he appeared in across all competitions.
At City, we have won 2 of the 10 games he has appeared in across all competitions.

No wonder the guy plays with little confidence, he has been losing games and getting relegated year in, year out.

I'd be very interested to see if there is a player with an even worse record in terms of wins over such an extensive period of time? Or have we signed the biggest (read: most frequent) 'loser' in the EFL?

It's a bit like saying Jonjo Shelvey would be a bad signing, because of his poor win/loss record

I'm happy to listen to the likes of Stephen Warnock. Absolutely no need to say what he did, so that must mean Akpan has something positive to offer

Of course I get the point, but we were told last season that we need to be buying more experienced players from The Championship, i.e. not the likes of those YTS muppets like Reeves and McCartan. We've now done what you asked, but sure enough that's not good enough

It's not my opinion that it's not good enough.

    We're 24th.

It's a cold, hard fact that the signings haven't been anything like good enough.

And while I should be big enough to not respond to posts like this, Shelvey's record in the same period of time?

    1 win from 10 in 2018-19.
    10 wins from 31 in 2017-18.
    31 wins from 47 in 2016-17.

So, instead of winning only 20 % of his games, Shelvey has in fact won 47 % of the games he's played in the same period.

You'll notice also he's played a lot more football than Akpan.

So I don't really see your point on that one, sorry.

Didn't go Gareth Bale go two season's without winning for Spurs?

    He turned out alright.

As you rightly point out though, the league table doesn't lie. We've been absolutely shocking.

6 of the 10 points we have picked up were very fortunate (Burton & Wimbledon).

The other four points were hardly inspiring, Shrewsbury were all over us in the first half at their place, wasteful with good opportunities, the warning signs were there very early with this defence and midfield. Can't remember who the other point was against? That much of a memorable game eh.

He was by far Burtons best player in the run in last year according to some Burton fans I spoke to when we played them

Bristol Rovers at home. Could have been 2-0 down at half-time. Tbf, much better second half.

I wonder how many 'fortunate points' Portsmouth have?

I imagine quite a few, to be fair.

Other games we've deserved something, and not got anything.

It's usually the sign of a poor team though, when you play reasonably well and still lose.

I heard Clough expected him to stay in the Championship, to be fair.

But note in my post, I didn't bash the guy's attributes or denounce his quality - I pointed out he's a statistical marvel, and his recent history explains to me why he has been such a let down so far. No confidence, unfamiliar with winning, used to losing out in relegation scraps...

All fair comment, in my opinion.

    Absolutely.

Our goal difference tells you all you need to know. Can't score, concede plenty, even while some performances have been okay.

Underlines the fact we signed a completely ineffective team.

5 minutes from staying up. 1 Bolton goal away from staying up on crowds of 6k. There are different ways of painting the picture.

It would have been another remarkable season had they stayed up again.

You seem to be determined to miss the point. Yes, McGowan was culpable for their goal. But earlier in the build up Chicksen was caught badly out of position and allowed their right winger to ghost past him like he wasn't there. Chicksen's error allowed the ball to be played across and led to McGowan's error.
It is possible for more than one player to be at fault for a goal.
