Sorry, yes, while you were posting this, I realised I worded that slightly wrong. The bottom two's games against each other are an irrelevance, so it doesn't matter how they get on against each other.

A further observation from Italy. I was reading an Italian sports paper in Arezzo this morning. There are two games to go in the regular season and issues of promotion, relegation and playoffs are under serious consideration. If two or more teams end up on the same points in Italy their relative positions are decided by the following criteria in order.
    1. The results between the two or more teams.
    2. The goal difference from these games.
    3. Goal difference over the whole season.
    4. Most wins.
    5. Drawing lots.
In an exhaustive analysis the paper printed all the results and goals scored of all the teams in with a chance of promotion, the playoffs or relegation. The final games invariably produce mind-boggling complicated possibilities as the matches are actually in progress. For example, lets say your team is fighting relegation. You might be equal on points with another team but you are safe because you have a better record against them. Then they score which takes them above you but another goal brings another team down to your points level and they have a superior record in the games between you. So from being safe you suddenly need to score. You get the picture. If a number of teams are very close together the possibilities are endless and usually teams can't work out if they need to hang on for a draw or go all out for a win. They might do one and then suddenly switch to the other, rightly or wrongly. It's hilarious. Only Italy could devise such a system.

Or, even more bizarrely, realise that conceding a goal is the best way forward, as in Barbados v Grenada https://bleacherreport.com/articles/74831-barbados-vs-grenada-in-94-the-most-bizarre-match-ever
