    Actually, it didn't
That was the Civil Case brought.
(By a family and Police officer)
Found Club (meaning Tordoff & Heginbotham) joint 2/3rds responsible and Bradford Council 1/3rd.
Biggest payout In British legal history.

But what you've just done, is highlight the fact that most are not aware of the facts.

    I've read it.

    Answered nothing.

Considering the gravity of the tragedy, I find the Popplewell Inquiry, pretty insulting.
    5 days to "investigate"
    General Ground safety
Birmingham/Leeds riot and death of a boy.
Fan behaviour and side note of 265 injured, 56 deaths.
    I don't say that lightly.

    We deserved better.
Remember, Popplewell is same man who argued Liverpool fans should basically "shut up".

This sums it up perfectly for me. A tragedy that should be honoured and remembered without dissection and provocation. For so long, I believe our community was the perfect embodiment of dignified grief in how we respect and reflect on what happened. Unfortunately, as with much of society, things now tend the way of the dramatic, self absorbed and confrontational.

    Agreed.
    Sums up perfectly.

Anyone questions anything and people literally "pile on". But when someone speaks factually, it's shut met by...

The Popplewell Inquiry determined the cause of the fire, the civil case apportioned blame, two different things.

Can you elaborate on "speaks factually" please? I'd like to be clear what you mean by that before I add any comments, if at all. Thanks

Are you Martin Fletcher by any chance.
Why start racking the ashes, it's almost 40 years ago some seem unable to let it go.
Looks like you've only joined yesterday to bring that terrible day up.

    Seriously.

    Again. Back to "pile on".

But No. I most certainly am not "Martin Fletcher".

    However, just to be clear.
    I'm a lifelong Bantam.
    1st game 1977/78
And I was so disgusted by the plans to "honour " Jack Tordoff by renaming the Boardroom that sits above the Memorial for the 56, I spoke with club itself and both Supporters forums.

Unfortunately I found nothing but spineless replies (unwilling to discuss) or complete denial.

As result, whilst that man's company is emblazoned upon the stand etc, I'll never enter Valley Parade again.

    Clear enough?

Popplewell only gave a hypothesis of what may have happened.
He deliberately didn't seek to apportion any blame, which in itself is bizarre.

    Sure.
    Starter for 10:

The Popplewell Inquiry was NOT an investigation/Inquiry about the fire.
But Crowd Safety & Control at Sports Grounds.

Once again, unless there is any fresh and reliable evidence, presumably scientific or contemporaneous documents, which was not available to the inquiry in 1985, then all the evidence has been thoroughly considered.
Memories and/or conspiracy theory ideas (without a shred of evidence) will not take the matter forward.
The fire is coming up to the 38th anniversary. I am fairly sure there will be nothing objective to add.

    May I ask?

Does it not bother you at all, that Bradford didn't get an Inquiry deserving of the tragedy?

It should've been souly about the fire, the injured and the dead. NOTHING else.
    Seriously.
They deemed it not worthy of a seperate inquiry.

It should NOT have been rushed through (for many reasons)
And should NOT be used as a "final say".

Because they didn't do what you asked.

The choice of continuing to be a lifelong Bantam is yours if your staying away because of the naming of one of the suites after Jack Tordoff who along with Stafford help save our club after Bob Martin screwed up I find a little pathetic you obviously have your reasons, but don't try and convince fellow fans who were there that day you know better with regards that terrible day.

You need to read what I said. If there is ‘fresh and reliable evidence, presumably scientific or contemporaneous documents, which was not available to the inquiry in 1985’, then perhaps the matter needs to be looked at again.

Without that, then it seems to me as though trying to ‘create something’, is not helpful.

Once again the inquiry took place a long time ago and was conducted to the standards applicable at the time.

It was a tragedy. It could have been avoided.

Just ignore what took place after.
Just as they ignored the warning letters.

I'd argue that the headline of Chapter 1, as quoted by another poster earlier, which is "How did the fire start" very much points to that part of the report being about the fire and the causes of it.

However, this is a very emotive subject and not one I really wish to argue about. I'll accept you and I have a different opinion on what may or may not have happened on the day and the credibility of the subsequent enquiry. I wish you well.

What I do find strange is a so called life long Bantam who until yesterday never posted on this forum yet is very vocal with regards the fire, it's almost 40 years ago get it go.
