Unfortunately it seems there are no bounds to the limits some will try and twist things to generate money, remember Martin Fletcher and his Fifty-Six : The Story of the Bradford Fire.
At the end of the day us fans who were in attendance that terrible day know the fire was not started deliberately.

It is, looks to be pretty much what Martin Fletcher said in his book about Heginbotham. Never believed it for a minute, as someone who sat in the block where the fire started for the decade leading up to 1985. You could see the litter build up underneath the seating from the discarded, fat soaked paper bags that the pies and pasties came in, old plastic cups and crisp packets. Factor in that it was protected from the weather and it's not difficult to see why it was such a fire hazard. Stafford probably wasn't the most reputable of businessman, but thinking that the fire was deliberate and caused by him is up there with David Icke's theories in my opinion.

Totally agree Rod and with Broncs on #29. I was there like many others on here, stood in the Paddock and shepherding my lads away before pulling my Dad out of the Stand. We all know the findings so what does he expect to change. I won't be listening but tempted to just so I could take action against him for what I fear will be fabrication.

The Popplewell Inquiry didn't really investigate the causes of the fire. It was primarily an inquiry into fan safety and drew together our tragedy and two others - Heysel and Birmingham - where the focus was on rioting in the ground by football fans. To somehow link the fire with football hooliganism was bizarre and a travesty.

It was my view at the time that a fuller, and independent inquiry was required for VP separately from the other two. It needed to look at not just the cause of the fire on the day but what decisions, what advice, what preceding factors could have been different to avoid the fire from starting; who said what to whom on safety matters in the months prior to the fire? That would certainly have involved detailed investigations into the actions of the club but also into the wider actions and decision taking of football authorities, safety bodies and indeed some politicians. The death of so many and the impact on their friends and families and those who suffered in the longer term warranted its own inquiry. Unfortunately that never happened.

Nearly 40 years later is not the time to start calling for a proper inquiry. Memories of that day are fading, key individuals are no longer with us and lessons designed to prevent another similar tragedy have probably already been actioned in the design of modern stadia. In my view, there is nothing to be gained from pursuing an inquiry now. The time to have done it was in the immediate aftermath of the fire when the facts surrounding that day could have been better investigated. The opportunity was missed several decades ago.

What a nasty piece of work.

Unfortunately this is the result of molly coddling conspiracy theorist morons.

They are all competing with each other to 'unearth' the next viral sensation (not to be confused with truth), and couldn't give a toss about the victims in pretty much in any instance of conspiracy garbage.

    Utterly, utterly shameful.

    Who is this idiot?

This sums it up perfectly for me. A tragedy that should be honoured and remembered without dissection and provocation. For so long, I believe our community was the perfect embodiment of dignified grief in how we respect and reflect on what happened. Unfortunately, as with much of society, things now tend the way of the dramatic, self absorbed and confrontational.

What a terrible thread this has turned in to(I know I don't have to read it)
raking over people's grief and reviving memories of that day borders on the ghoulish
Like 90% of people there to this day I have never spoken (nor will I) about the events of that fateful day
The sights and sounds I encountered will live with me and haunt me till the day I die
    I don't need any reminders
Let the casualties rest in peace let their loved ones cherish their memories and if someone wants to release a podcast IGNORE IT !!! don't give them the recognition they crave

Interviewing people is not going to bring anything fresh. Unless he has some new, reliable evidence (which doesn’t seem to be the case), then all it is doing is rehashing everything which is already in the public domain. Has he anything which wasn’t put before the original inquiry? New scientific evidence which is credible. I very much doubt it.

Most people who get involved in things like this have no interest in the victims, they are out for themselves.

We also brace ourselves for the people who will use this disaster to bash Hillsbrough in a few weeks. You never hear about this disaster in the same way you hear about Hillsbrough is a well know trope. It's the same every single year.

I've not listen to it, I have no interest in listening to it or of the conspiracy theories which it fuels.

On another note, I don't think it's right to sing songs about it or to wear clothing or shirts depicting the victims as a number as it's extremely crass, yet it seems many of our fans feel that is fair game.

More pain to come for those that were there. It had a very, very long and thorough investigation at the time, interviewing hundreds of eyewitnesses, reaching conclusions that the vast majority of fans, staff and services there agreed with. This not needed and not wanted (putting it politely).

They used Jack as an indirect way to discuss the fire as their original attempts to discuss it directly had been met with plenty of resistance.

Either way, they got the attention they craved for the podcast, I just hope no one bothered to listen, even if it might have tempted a few with the complete pretence of having "new, groundbreaking information".

I clearly won't be listening but I've absolutely no doubt that it's basically Martin Fletcher's grievances, spun slightly and trotted out as new information.

Is this a rehash of what was in Martin Fletchers book? Didn't that have a conspiracy theory about Stafford and Tebro Toys?

The spidey senses are certainly tingling.

If I were a betting man, @Steampig@Steampig will fade away and disappear from here as quickly as this thread.
