Curtis Guthrie... I forgot how depressing being a City fan can be.

 

Guthrie should be going down with Stevenage. What a thoroughly dreadful signing.

 

I very much doubt that Vaughan will be going anywhere, I can't see anyone else paying the wages we are paying him, its a lot easier for him just to stay put. To be fair I rate him, I think in a more attacking side he's a 20 goal striker.

 

Gomp of the Season, that signing.

Literally nothing good about that guy. Ability, no. Attitude, no. Presence, no. And that factors in that he's 6'3 or whatever.

Horrendous signing.

 

Agreed and today's events, may mean the latter may occur.

The Guthrie situation, is synonymous with my personal reason why I lack trust in Rhodes and Rupp. To dilute the squad, retaining the real issue at the club in Bowyer was just plain incompetence.

 

Vaughan was absolute quality for the first half dozen games then got Bowyered. Replaced him with Guthrie.

 

I’ll write off the fecker, a reserve from the bottom side in the whole league, scored 65 goals in a nine year career and looked out of his depth and not interested. His recruitment is everything that’s wrong with Bradford City and will be until a CEO who thinks beyond the end of the season is in charge.

 

If we got the salary cap way and it is 1.25 million I would love the club to recruit and implement a serious analytics/recruitment team. We would have room in the budget if we can convince Rupp as we are currently running at nearly 3 million out on wages so we would still be saving him money.

But the sort of moneyball way if anyone’s seen the book or film might be the only way some sides get the edge if they don’t have an academy and are all on a similar level. They can work with McCall and ask what he needs and give him some options within budget and he can make the final decision. Plus if we find some gems and they are sold, they would already be working in the background to get the replacements in and not leave us flapping about in the window and end up with Guthrie again.

I think he could. It reminds me of listening Richie Wellens on the under cosh show last night. Jon Parkin was joking with him, saying his best work was in the box because he couldn't be arsed moving out of it.
Wellens then made a similar comment regarding Eoin Doyle, he knew Doyle was a striker who did all his best work in the box, he couldn't understand when he went to scout Doyle at City games why they had him doing the work of a target man outside the box, challenging for headers with centre backs when that wasn't an attribute to his game.
I think Bowyer tried him in every position bar his best one, Richie Wellens could see it, we could see it, the only who completely oblivious to it was Bowyer. I think we have a few players who will benefit not being coached by him, terrible manager.

 

Indeed. Donaldson, Doyle, Vaughan: something to work with. Donaldson, Guthrie, Novak: least said soonest mended. Whoever the new manager was going to be, those moves really threw a spanner into his works.

You don't need much time to identify players who aren't right for the club.

In Brunker's case, 5 minutes was enough to identify that he was nowhere near Football League level. Some disagreed, but he was clearly an amateur level player and minimum data was required to see that.

Guthrie strolling round without a care in the world during his very first outing tells you all you need to know about his character. If you can't motivate yourself for your debut for a club doing much better than your last, you're heart really isn't in football. Guthrie looks as under-motivated as anyone I have ever seen at City, and when that initial verdict is espoused by every Stevenage fan who I've seen commenting on Guthrie, I'm already happy that it wasn't just my imagination.

His next move should be to non league.

 

Didn't hear many complaining until the injuries started to kick in and the squad players weren't up for it.
With 13 games in a winning 2 - 1 at Morecombe and Donaldson got injured we weren't doing too bad.

 

We were there through the skin of our teeth Bronco, totally undeserved.

 

So did i, he was bang on. When Reeves came back he had a couple of good performances in his first games but as Fordy said he like the others suffered badly by a manager who hadn't a chuffing clue what he was doing. Just read Parkers review of the season and that sums it up. You could count on one hand the amount of decent performances and still have fingers left over. Don't think i've ever been as frustrated watching football.

(Staunton did get a run out at RB, didn't he? I know I've seen him listed as a CH/FB.)

Scary, even granted that the new GK should come in as no. 1. Scarier once (?if) you take away Vaughan.

There should be a glut of players to choose from, though, so as FaithfulBantam says, this would be the time to make the required effort. It's probably the best chance we'll have for a while to put together a squad for years instead of just the near future.

In there pal and in these uncertain times I expect him to stay. Certainly at his age.

 

Thankfully central midfield and the wingers are going to get a much needed overhaul because those areas have been utter shite for 3 years now. A blank canvas is perfect.

Donaldson staying would be disappointing because he just isn't good enough nor does he suit Stuart's style. Although you can't blame him if he takes up the additional year.

Sadly though, Bowyer saddled us with an additional two donkeys upfront meaning we have 4 contracted strikers and only one of them is good enough, which is disappointing considering our attack has been insipid for years and is another area in need of an overhaul.

 

You've done well to make such a thorough and detailed analysis given that we only saw him for 17 mins against Grimsby and 70 odd against Stevenage

 

It should be the first thing on the agenda this summer after years upon years of dreadful recruitment.
