Best of luck to all of them, not a single 'bad apple' among the bunch for me.

A few too many average players cost us in what amounts to a 'nearly' season, but none of them were a waste of space like we've seen in previous seasons.

Agreed. Some who go may feel they haven't been given a chance. Many of whom could of only have dreamed of being given chance, after chance, after chance like our resident midfielders. Good luck to those who go and stay.

Full credit must go to the frustrated players on the sidelines who didn't go to Daddy and complain, or publicly throw the toys out of the pram.

We all know every player wants to be on the pitch, but there's a right way to handle disappointment, and these lads all did that.

    Good luck to them.

Ridehalgh was the only surprise for me. Fairly obvious Gilly was going to be offered something, he's been a key man under Sparky. I think if Ridehalgh signs on, that's the end of Foulds but either way, one of them will be back up at a better LB we will bring in over the summer.

Ridehalgh the new scapegoat. Was never as bad as some are making out. I agree that probably sees the end of Foulds. A few players in the squad that will probably be released with a mutual agreement such as Hendrie and Cousin Dawson.

Maybe MH is thinking Ridehalgh & Foulds are good value for money. Can't imagine either are on big wages.
It would allow remaining funds to go into more attacking players.

Nobody has made him the scapegoat. I just thought at 32, we might have moved on to a younger player.

So the retained list is out. We have 18 players under contract:

    Brad Halliday
    Ciarán Kelly
    Colin Doyle
    Emmanuel Osadebe
    Finn Cousin-Dawson
    Harry Chapman
    Harry Lewis
    Jake Young
    Jamie Walker
    Luke Hendrie
    Matt Derbyshire
    Matty Foulds
    Matty Platt
    Richie Smallwood
    Ryan East
    Sam Stubbs
    Timi Odusina
    Vadaine Oliver

Offers have been made to Cook, Gillead and Ridehalgh.

I don't think Cook will sign but I reckon the other 2 will - personally I wouldn't have made offers to either.

So we already have a pretty full squad. It needs lots of work and looking at the list above, there are already several on the list who Hughes clearly doesn't rate. Throw into the mix some big spenders coming into the league next season and I think we're in for a very tough season tbh.

    Yes, he sees him Monday-Friday.
I've nothing against Ridehalgh. Good all round full back at this level.

Depending on who accepts the contracts offered and what we do with the in-contract players (i.e. ship some out) this could be our first summer in ages where it isn't wholesale change. If so, will be interesting to see if consistency of personnel is key or whether it just ensures another season of nearly but not quite. I'm on the fence as I can see arguments both ways.

Not been made a scapegoat by anyone has he? Not a bad player, it's jut he's 32 and has a terrible record of picking up 3 or 4 spells on the sidelines a season, and we have Foulds, just seemed like LB is an area we'd look to improve on, regardless of who was on the books.

MH obviously thinks we aren't far away. If you look at the table you can probably agree with that.
3 or 4 more goals/less conceded and we would have been up in the Auto's.
    Fine lines.

Biggest surprise and disappointment for me is Doyle having his playing contract extended for another year. I would have liked to see him concentrate on his coaching role and for us to bring in a younger but capable number 2 to challenge Lewis and keep him on his toes.

Gilliead isn't a surprise but still a disappointment. Gives his all but it was time to move on. He's been here too long, contributed absolutely nothing and he takes up a position that we need multiple reinforcements in.

Ridehalgh is pants. Never rated him and I hope to god he's not been offered first choice terms.

Possibly, I just never got the feeling either were what he was looking for in a LB. Especially with MH's comments after Foulds left about wanting a left back with a bit more going forward, neither really are that great at the attacking side of the role, I assumed he'd want a more mobile LB in the summer.

Of course, assuming Ridehalgh actually signs the new deal and isn't looking for a new challenge.
