I suspect Boris will be brought down, before too long, but not by Labour. It will be his own party in the end.

Honestly feel like if the media and Labour Party focused on the points and divisions raised by Conservative MPs such as Mark Fletcher and Aaron Bell in Parliament today they'd make Boris' job untenable by the end of the month. They seem to be simply chasing bigger scandals though.

Maybe Labour don't think bringing Boris down is in their best interests.

No! NO! NOO!!! You can'y say that! Just focus on Johnson otherwise you'll make the exact same mistake that the Labour party makes. Says so Aaron Baker - which is precisely what the Tworwy party want. That way they can get rid of Johnson and all will be well in the tory party. End of all sleaze.
Stop trying to distract us Baker. You are talking junk.
    Tories just keep on giving:

I mean. That's the opposition of what I was saying.

Don't focus on Johnson. Don't focus on Patterson. Focus on the divide in the Conservative Party cased by the vote and split them permanently in the eyes of the voting public.

I'm sorry that you didn't understand that.

Keeping putting articles out from The Guardian doesn't make a difference, it's what they print 365 days a year. The ones from the Mail and the Times are much more damaging.

Does that article say only 3 Labour MPs have paid positions outside Parliament? That can't be right?

Still, the Labour Party could just stop all this by banning second jobs and abolishing the House of Lords....they'd be multiple steps towards getting my vote if they did.

    I can't understand why they haven't though.

To coin a phrase from donald trump (I know, I know) but it’s time to drain the swamp. And by that I don’t just mean MPs but the House of Lords too. If anything this last week or so has taught us they are all the same and we need to get rid of the lot and start again.
It’s full of self centred scum who are only interested in themselves and making their friends/family at our expense. And we keep voting for it! And do nothing! We are so weak in this country when it comes to what we let our politicians get away with.

No matter what they say to win yours and my vote the mask always slips.

I’ve said it before. We could do with another expenses type scandal. Maybe this is it. I mean, how the hell can that Tory MP legitimately claim he’s representing his constituents by working for a foreign government in another country, he can’t. No doubt we can expect some stories about migrants and/or some sabre rattling about France to keep this off the front pages soon. It’ll probably work too.

They can't but if you're allowed second jobs then there's nothing up with it. They rules are basically saying you don't need to be working for your constituents for 100% of your working time.

But this is the issue with digging through it and making it look widespread. They've gone from lobbying (which is bad) to finding people who used their Commons meeting rooms or Parliamentary stationary while doing the second jobs that they're allowed to have. While it's a technical breach of the rules it comes across like they're trying to get people in trouble for using the wrong paperclips and losing sight of the actual major issue.

I can imagine my bosses response if I asked or was caught conducting another company’s business on my bosses premises. It’s not normal. Stop trying put them up on a pedestal as something special. Plus you’re skirting round that he was voting and supposedly doing work
constituency work whilst residing in the Virgin Islands. That’s fine.

It's not normal and I don't like it. If a party said they were going to stop MPs having second jobs it would move me closer to voting for them.

It's not about having them on a pedestal though, they're simply allowed to do it.

There's a world of difference between them breaking the rules (the real rules, not the ones about not using parliamentary pens) and them adhering to rules we don't like.

Geoffrey Cox wasn't simply working in the BVI, he was there working for the BVI Govt in a wide ranging corruption case .. brought against the BVI Govt by the the UK's Foreign Office.

The BVI doesn't have a tax system as such. It raises its money from charging those who use the off shore tax haven to hide their wealth. That includes organised crime, UK companies and extremely wealthy individuals including some Brits such as Richard Branson who lives on the BVI. Part of the case against the BVI Govt involves gaining access to information on who owns the anonymous funds. I guess part of Cox's brief will be to advise the BVI Govt on how to prevent this!

The irony of the case won't be lost on Cox and others. Had the UK stayed in the EU, it would have had to implement the final stage of the EU's Anti Tax Avoidance Directive last year which would have shone a very bright light on the likes of the BVI and the UK's other tax havens. It would have dentified those individuals and companies who keep their funds offshore to avoid scrutiny by the UK's tax authorities. Nice work for Coxy, the Govts former Attorney General.
