Now that the season is over (barring a miracle run of wins) it's the right time for Alexander to start looking at next season and the players he wants to keep. All apart from Chapman and Platt have a 1 year option.

For me this is what I'd do/expect to happen:
    • Doyle: Suspect he'll retire at the end of the season, Keep on as GK coach
    • Richardson: Keep as your cheap, young 3rd choice keeper
    • Halliday: trigger 1 year extension
    • Hendrie: release
    • Stubbs: 1 year extension (only just, benefit of the doubt based on last season)
    • Platt: offer new deal
    • Ridehalgh: release
    • Smallwood: down to wages, suspect he's on a high wage so release
    • Walker: 1 year extension
    • Chapman: if we are looking play with wingers then offer a new 1 year deal as I think he's a good player when played wide
    • Pointon: 1 year extension
    • Derbyshire: will be very surprised if he doesn't retire, could be an option to keep on as a coach
There are a few that I've said to trigger the extension but it's only just and wouldn't have an issue if they were release.

For me this is what I'd do/expect to happen:
    • Doyle: Retire him we need competition not cover
    • Richardson: Keep as your cheap, young 3rd choice keeper - agree
    • Halliday: trigger 1 year extension - Disagree. Try to get him signed longer term
    • Hendrie: Release - didn't realise he was still ours
    • Stubbs: 1 year extension (only just, benefit of the doubt based on last season) - Agree
    • Platt: offer new deal - Agree
    • Ridehalgh: release - A week ago I would have said keep as cover, now I say release.
    • Smallwood: down to wages, suspect he's on a high wage so release - Release. Pay his travel expenses to get as far away as possible, I'm sure he would be a success in Saudi.
    • Walker: 1 year extension - Release. Expensive, Injured. little end product. A poor man's Eoin Jess. More likely to break his own leg than score a goal
    • Chapman: if we are looking play with wingers then offer a new 1 year deal as I think he's a good player when played wide - release. Flatters himself. There's a reason why he can't hold down a starting a place in the 82nd bext team in professional football.
    • Pointon: 1 year extension - Agree, but still think he will end up in The National League.
    • Derbyshire: will be very surprised if he doesn't retire, could be an option to keep on as a coach - Release, has been coaching and it's not improved our on target shots.
There are a few that I've said to trigger the extension but it's only just and wouldn't have an issue if they were release.

Keep Halliday, Platt & Pointon. Offload the rest. GA needs the headroom, to bring in the players he wants in the summer.

    Halliday, Platt, Walker, Pointon

The remainder should be shown the door and thanked for their services in no strict order.

It doesn't look like GA rates Pointon so I can't see him staying. He does really rate Smallwood though so he will still be here if GA is.

Hope Halliday gets a shot at League One - deserves it after the last two seasons. I'd keep Walker and Platt. Stubbs would be a maybe. Get rid of everyone else.

I couldn't agree more if i'd have written this post myself!

Never understood the love in with Jamie Walker, always bloody injured and when he is playing refuses to track back as much as he should do. And as for Smallwood, absolutely HUGE let down. Get rid

I know it is probably more for one of the millions of other threads that have been started recently, but I will say it here anyway - should we not have a clearout and/or just sign similar players, and with no clear future plan/aim, we will be relegated next season. make no mistake about it

Stubbs, Platt and Pointon to stay. Suspect Walker is a high earner, and too risky to rely on his fitness. I would be tempted to keep Chapman if he is to be played down the wing, regularly; need to remind myself he did hit some very good form in that position before the injury (feels like a long time ago though).

The elephant in the stadium is the in-contract players, and who out of financial necessity will be asked to re-negotiate wages or be encouraged to put themselves on the market. The saving grace is most of the other teams around us will probably be doing the same.

The thought of allowing GA to remodel the playing staff fills me with dread with more wasted years ahead

Can not keep Walker with Pattinson on the books, we do not want another situation like this year with both attacking mids out , and they both miss large parts of the season.
Finn cousin Dawson needs adding to the list and Odisina

The blame firmly lies with Stephen Gent in that particular subject. He needs to be given the bullet long before GA is criticised

I agree, I'm just saying I think it is more likely he will still be here unfortunately. GA had him on loan at Scunny and said last week that ever since then, he has checked his availability every season. That doesn't sound to me like he is a player he wants to get rid of.

Not much room for bringing in own players. I have been very disappointed with Smallwood and I see our midfield being a priority.

    Wow
That’s 29 players currently contracted to Bradford city
Looking through that list if I was the manager I would only want to keep 6 or 7 based on the performance of the season. How on earth do we manage to sign so many poor and under performing injury prone players?

12 months on from the last time I said it and it still remains the same
“If Smallwood and Gilliead play the majority of our games together in midfield we are going nowhere.”

Contract options are normally in the clubs favour. So 12 players there
Halliday, Pointon and the young keeper , i would take up the options.
So 9 out ,Ogeyoke and Tomkinson to go back.
Thats 17 players with the contracted , Sam Walker not on the list, leaves room for around 6 players incoming for a squad of 23
