Our Signings are poor…..your alternatives (and why)

We exited the gates as soon as the whistle went, so unfortunately didn’t see the fans reactions to the players or manager. I was absolutely seething with the performance, but even more so at the clear regression in quality of playing personnel, so I didn’t want to hang around and abuse the players because I wouldn’t have been able to stop if I’m honest. The drive down there was fecking woeful and took almost 5 and a half hours, and the drive back today wasn’t much better. We have dedicated our entire weekend and lots of brass to go watch that bag of shite and that is how they repay us. Not good enough at all. I went to the majority of away games last season and have Stockport tickets for next week, but if the next 3 games serve up anything near as bad as the Crawley game, I will certainly be thinking twice before doing any more away games. This has been the shittest opening day to a season for some time, the worst thing for me is I don’t think it is a one-off or just “one of those things”. I cannot see where/how we improve

 

God I hate City fans sometimes.

 

Not rocket science is it. Your list makes it confusing as to why the management get it so badly wrong.

During match-time I'm sure Venom won't help.. However, after the final whistle, after giving your day up to watch that display, I'd say its perfectly reasonable if you're that way inclined to dish out some venom. And it may even buck up their ideas a little for Tuesday's defeat.

 

We do have a reputation amongst ex players as having a 'demanding' fan base.

 

I don’t see anything wrong with demanding that players be on their game and try to fulfil the target of promotion.

 

There’s demanding then there’s abuse, a bit like what happened with Crichlow last season. Young lads like Omari Patrick and Gibson abused on social media for any mistake. There’s a reason a lot of former players love to stick it to us and I don’t blame them. City fan’s behaviour and entitlement has gotten worse over the last 7 or 8 years. Not just with players but things like chucking flairs about against the rules of the sport.

 

Perfectly acceptable to be demanding, I feel some on here are institutionalised to L2 mediocrity and accept it.
The likes of Leeds, Bolton, Coventry, Sheffield Utd, Preston, Burnley etc didn't hang around when they dropped down.

Time to be positive, tired of watching teams that come in awe of VP going home with the points, scare them to death and send them scampering.

Did any player look like remotely like dying for the cause at Crawley, the looked to me very much like going through the motions. If they can't hack it, then bugger off elsewhere whilst whining about our demanding fan-base

 

I put demanding in highlights as it can be interpreted in different ways. No problem being disappointed with the result but I don't think having a go at the players is the way forward. They weren't the ones that picked.yhe formation that hung them out to dry, that was the manager. Personally I think the reaction has been over the top, you should never go all in early. Give Hughes at least a.dozen games to get it working, bring in new players as necessary. If no progress is seen by that time then the whole process within the club needs to be seriously questioned.

 

Spot on. It isn’t and never will be necessary. That’s what these forums are for IMO.

I’m by no means saying we should accept mediocrity or worse and I accept booing after a performance and result like Saturday is part of football. But ‘Venom’ is a step too far and don’t know what it achieves.

Now the weekend has past, hoping that emotions have settled and we can all (starting first and foremost with the management and players) can start by repairing Crawley game with string performances tomorrow and Saturday.

 

Accrington tomorrow who were off with a flyer tough game Morecambe next week with uncle Adams waiting with open arms. Lose there and there will be a bit of rough and tumble on here

 

I wasn’t talking about abusive behaviour that is never acceptable under any circumstances.

 

I was disappointed and I have said we need 6 weeks to have a proper look at them. However Saturday was a shock it seems we have taken several steps back, so not surprised at the reaction.

 

Very few positives to take from the first game, definitely three points thrown away. Odour showed some nice touches and Walker looked lively. But yet another game where a potent goal scorer has nothing created.for him, something we saw a fair bit last season. I'll give Hughes time to sort his game plan out, hopefully MacDonald and Stubbs will make a big difference.

 

Even tougher game at Stockport before Morecambe

 

It’s the circumstances with the Morecambe game though Adams and all that. Let’s hope Saturday was a one off

 

I don’t think there is anything to suggest the players are losing faith in MH. Getting used to the system and working out his best team won’t be done in a week.
We really do need to trim the squad though. Still a few weeks of the window left and Sparks said the squad would be much leaner. It isn’t. We need a fair few out and at least 2 quality signings.

 

I know and as Roger put demanding in quotations I don’t think he was either. I’d hazard a guess some former players have far worse things to say about the club. It’s always nice to hear from a Gary Jones about how great everyone is because they were only part of successful teams. But a lot of the lads, lot of them young I might add, have been part of difficult times through no fault of their own and suffered as a result. For me peoples true character is exposed in difficult times not when all is rosy. This is in no way aimed at any particular individual on this forum just to clear that up, more behaviour witnessed in person and on toxic platforms like Twitter over the past years.
