Our Signings are poor…..your alternatives (and why)

Harrogate have a goof left sided defender. Tall. Good in the air. Dominent. quickish and can play CB. LB or LWB. Not sure where they signed him from but would be perfect for us

 

Sorry but Foulds wasn't good enough, if that's your bar, we will stay in league 2 for an eternity

 

Mabe so but we never have found a suitable replacement as good and the defence was rock solid when he played which he has brought to Harrogate

 

Harrogate are good for the making the most of cheap, local talent.

We should really be beyond that.

Ridehalgh and Foulds are much of a muchness, neither are massively better than the other, but neither do we miss one or the other.

We certainly do need a left wing back if we're bothering with wing backs, otherwise if we return to full backs then if makes no difference.

That’ll be the Harrogate who conceded 68 goals last season compared with our 43?

Our back 4 was perfectly ok last season and would have been fine this season if that was the way we chose to play.It’s the tinkering of the players yesterday that everybody has issues with.
If you are gonna play with wingbacks,try and use players who have played in that position before.

I’ve no issues with Foulds,but don’t make him out to be some sort of defensive kingpin that’s made Harrogate rock solid.

 

I have been posting pretty heavily over the last day or so on other channels about our recruitment policy.

There are several issues at the club that need addressing but none more immediately than our recruitment department. The main problem is that we don't actually seem to have a plan going into each window.

January is a fine example of this. We were in and around the automatic spots at this point and some of the fixtures were really quite favourable.

We lost Wright who was a key player and what did we do, we replaced him with Nevers who had already had an uneventful loan. We needed to share the goals around and we signed Derbyshire and Costelloe.

Steve Gent seems to well liked at the club, but to my eyes he has added nothing at all to the process. Its a disgrace that we have gone backwards.

 

My bar is also quite considerably higher than Ridehalge and Halliday. Both are absolute gash!

 

We've still only conceded 1.

There's no evidence our defence is way worse yet, and fans saying a good team would have put 5 past us means absolutely nothing.

They didn't and they haven't.

 

Oliver had a good record before he came here scored goals at the level above

 

You'd be wrong but you can still argue

 

Swap Walker with Halliday and you’re spot on with the exception of Harratt who could have excelled here if he’d not had the interference of his dad. He’s the exact kind of player we need playing off Cook or even Oliver. Maybe Tyler Smith can also be that player but Hughes simply won’t play 2 up front.
As far as fans accepting failure and mediocracy, the 1000 down there yesterday showed no evidence of that and gave it to Hughes and the players with some venom after the game, myself included coz I’m sick of it.

 

I also thought Harratt had something. However it played put behind the scenes though, it was a waste of everyone's time.

 

In response to the original post James Norwood who is now plying his trade in the National league is better than any of our strikers with the exception of Cook. York also signed a player that we should have looked at from Scotland.

Mansfield signed Aden Flint I'd have had him over Taylor.

Look back to before Notrs County signed Langstaff, how have we not picked up on him. I knew of him just by looking at the top goalscorers charts.

Then we had Fiacre Kellehar at Sollihull Moors on loan playing alongside Sbrarra and Andrew Dallas, the latter who had a great loan spell at Chesterfield and now plays for Barnsley.

We needed a striker in January, Dallas moved in January.

 

The biggest problem with Gents recruitment appears to be laziness or lack of contacts outside of teesside.

 

Gents recruitment policy will only expand when the car share has no spare seats left.

 

They signed him to tighten the defense when they looked favorites for relegation. Which he has helped do. I believe we had a very good goals conceded total the tightest in the division which deteriorated when he left and we struggled the rest of the season to stop conceding. Goals. He is a good div 2 defender and we missed him and the jury is out if we still have any better

 

Gent can get you the best players around but if your manager insists on playing a formation with players out of position? Why on earth was Ogeyeke not playing wing back yesterday?

 

To say we struggled defensively once Foulds left has given me a good laugh to end the weekend anyhow.

 

As another poster mentioned previous I have absolutely no idea who we should have signed instead of our current crop, but there again I'm not paid a full time wage to research potential targets, but one thing for sure is if I was a fulltime recruitment employee I'm pretty sure I could have found a few better than we've signed.
