    We have a big stadium and it's well acknowledged that due to poor performances only about 3,000 turn up so it should be possible to maintain 1 metre distance between everyone. Christ, even our players keep 1 metre from the opposition.

    They can but won’t win. The last time a situation like this occurred was the outbreak of WW2, I believe Blackpool were top. They’d played a lot less games but the season was voided. If we start again early April then fair enough the season finishes. If like some are saying it’ll be 16 weeks+ there won’t be any other option but to void the season, it’s harsh but it’s happened before. And it’s just a bloody game of football at the end of the day, this is a tad more serious. Leeds and your beloved Liverpool will have to suck it up like the rest.

    Yes, I agree that it is going to get messy soon. And that is particularly so for those whose jobs prevent them from working at home or those in the NHS who will shortly be dealing with an influx of patients who are infected with the virus and who require treatment by the pros.

    My own experience suggests businesses and other organisations are already getting prepared for this. My own already uses webconferencing for example and part of our contingency plan is to upscale that to keep in routine touch with each other and with our clients in the UK and in Europe and for more of us to work from home. One of our neighbours is the head of a secondary school and she was saying that all schools are now preparing contingency plans on how to provide 'classroom' time in the event of the schools being closed. Hers is a private school and all her pupils use a laptop routinely for class work. I don't know whether the state sector is so well provided with the technology so heaven knows how they'll manage! I've no idea when these contingency plans might be introduced if ever but things are definitely happening in preparation for something.

    It's happening now and whingeing about not getting to watch our local team for a couple of months (which is a Godsend at the moment!) is a trivial issue when compared to the bigger issue of how the economy and how some people in key sectors will manage.
