O'Connor throws armband in net...

Just to be clear. I've no idea if O'Connor was made vice captain officially. I stated he was vice captain because the armband went to him following the Caddis injury. Just a logical conclusion. In any case he clearly accepted the armband. With it comes responsibility.

 

One of the most depressing things about this is, as far as I'm aware none of his team mates called him out on his behaviour.

Imagine that being tolerated in a team with Gary Jones, Michael flynn, Andrew Davies, Stephen darby etc etc

Someone should have confronted him

 

Drury is another to get out of the club, One of Edins talentless puppets with little ability he needs to go ASP

 

To think of all the fantastic captains we have had over the years who were proud as punch to wear the armband and this prick has the nerve to do that. To say i'm furious is an understatement

 

I now don't give a flying feck. My first game at VP was in the late sixties and I have had a season ticket for too many years to mention. Thanks Dad. I have now found other ways of enjoying my free time and WILL NOT be renewing. £150? Yes, it is cheap, but it is utter shite. A bit like expecting a good meal out on a two for one £15 basis. If you look at the replay I don't think any of the other players realised, at least at the time that he did it. Seems to me as most of them are looking elsewhere.

 

At least Akpan retrieved it from the back of the net. I wasn't there today so I don't know whether Akpan then put it on, but at least Akpan clearly thought it was unacceptable.

 

Absolutely right Onside. The kind of character I want playing for us is one that when given an opportunity to prove a decision made about them that they didn't agree with was the wrong one, they grasp it with both hands, not act like a petulant, spoilt child. I hope some of the other players are man enough to tell him what a pathetic individual he is.

1. no way o’connor is penalised for the penalty, can’t really see much in it but if anyone it’s NKP.

2. o’donnell flapping at a corner.

3. cross comes in too easy from right and o’brien loses his man for a tap in.

Cadiss has been far from our best player for months, your entitled to your opinion...................................but your wrong, I'd suggest he's been in the top three performers week in week out.

As I've posted we need to hear O'Connors take on the matter but I fine it hard to explain why he even took the armband if he felt so strongly about doing so that he would disrespected the club and paying fans who traveled 520 miles on an al round trip ?.

 

I would put Anthony O’Connor on the bench at Valley Parade next Saturday and bring him on in the 89th minute so that the whole crowd can abuse him !!!

 

Why not put him into stocks in front of the club shop and do it right......................I took that from a very intelligent man who knows football

 

Make it the 70th minute, the ground will be empty in the 89th minute.

 

Remember when the players were made to go to the Stephen Darby appreciation night, an exercise supposed to galvanise the squad and make them appreciate what it is to play for our club. I remember a game where Darby was captain as Jones was on the bench. When Jones came on Darby made a big thing of giving Jones the captains armband, both those players knew what it meant to captain this club. Both of these greats must be hurting seeing what has happened to our club and the disregard some of the present squad seem to have for it and our fans.

 

One of James Mason‘s jobs was to interview players to assess their character. Pity he wasn’t there to interview Anthony O’Connor !!!

 

Credit where it's due though, O'Connor's assist for their fifth was sublime.

 

Maybe he didn't accept it. Maybe he disagreed with what drury was asking. Maybe he was told to do things that just didn't make sense.

And yes Jon, your point re pooping on neighbours lawn is well made, but maybe police would be interested if you told them the neighbour had pooped in every room of your house for the last week.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not defending his action, but would like to know why. Maybe there's been some serious pooping going on down at Apperley Bridge all week.

 

Anthony O’Connor has issued a statement, following this afternoon’s Sky Bet League One defeat to Portsmouth.

It read: “First of all I am bitterly disappointed about today’s result and, for that matter, last weekend’s defeat to Walsall.

“It obviously led to David Hopkin resigning from his role, which we all feel a large degree of responsibility for.

“Martin took charge of the team and made the decision to give Paul Caddis the captaincy, which I was completely supportive of.

“I have worn the armband with a great deal of pride this season and am right behind any manager’s decision. My job never changes. I am here to give 100% for Bradford City.

“It has been brought to my attention by members of staff at the club that supporters are unhappy with me, after I removed the armband during the second half.

“Paul (Caddis) came off injured and I put the armband on in the dressing room - at half-time. The stitching was coming away and I had just headed the ball away for a corner.

“I was getting ready to defend the corner and took it (the armband) off. I put it in the goal.

“It is ridiculous to suggest I did it for any other reason. I would never disrespect the club or the captaincy. I wouldn’t have put it (the armband) on if I didn’t want to wear it.

“Most importantly, I wouldn’t disrespect the travelling fans who made the long journey to support us today.

“Lastly, I want to touch on comments which appeared on social media in the last 24 hours.

“The comments, which I am now told have been deleted, are entirely untrue and hugely hurtful.

“For the record, I do not carry a goal bonus in my contract and can assure every single Bradford City supporter the last thing on my mind - in the dressing room at Walsall - was the consolation effort I scored.”
