Today was an absolute sh1t show for sure, but I'm going to stick to my word and not throw alcohol fuelled toys out the pram, obviously hopeful thinking but just maybe days like today could be more beneficial to GA in the short term to suss out the dead wood we need to get shut of asap.

It wasn't "the oppositions day" when Challinor was stating he was happy with a point when we played Stockport or when we beat Swindon or when we played Wrexham.

There's been enough good performance for optimism but more abject ones, which justify your comments I suppose.

 

I fail to see how Walker was part of any problem in the first half, when he put in an isolated position and then tried to rectify that mistake, by trying to get involved.

He'd walk into any of the top four, who would appreciate just what a hard working talent he is and of course look miles better.

Alexander needs to understand that the only way forward for this team is to maximise the talents of Walker and Pointon. For me we could manage without Cook, if these two are fully involved in the match and given role that fulfill their potential.

 

If Stubbs seemed fine with Platt or Critchlow as a partner and even has Exeter fans regretting him leaving, then I'm not going to throw him under the bus just yet - given the car crash that has been squad selection / tactics for two months.

Stubbs needs either a player who can pass a ball as good as him or one who's reasonably mobile. Taylor fits neither bill.

We could pair Taylor with John Stones and he's make him look daft.

Taylor is fine for an attritional team, fighting against relegation where three wins every ten matches is fine. Any yes, I realise that means he now fits in fine with us, but I think you get my point!!

 

Taylor shouldn't be anywhere near a professional team in the English pyramid.

LOL!! As usual I love your Geoff Boycott approach. But Taylor would have fit in perfectly as a Barrow CB last week, who understandably are merely happy not to concede, stay mid table, and so the whole team is set up defensively.

 

Yes. "He / they were crap" simply because of the insane tactics. Or do you think they are irrelevant to a match? i.e. players are asked to play a certain way for a new manager, who's set them up incorrectly - but it's always because the players are crap?

If so why have managers?

Strange that in the second half, a more attritional system that played to the strengths of all the 11 players, as opposed to just 3 in the first half (Lewis and the hapless front two), yielded better results. If that was the set up for the first half, we probably would still have lost, but we wouldn't have been 4-0 down at half time.

 

What is this to do with my man of the match call? The better player who was more consistent in his performance over 90plus mins for me was Halliday.

 

I can only imagine those squad players who aren't injured and can't get into this team, must be shockingly bad. I'm all for trying to build relationships on the pitch by giving guys 2 or 3 chances but GA has a real problem in finding players who can perform for 45 minutes, nevermind 2 or 3 games. Tuesdays game has to be viewed as precursor for Saturday game with those picked being the ones who turn out next week.

 

Of all the CB's Platt looks the most solid, but lacks pace. Kelly is raw and I can see him being loaned out or released in January. How Taylor got a 2 year deal only Hughes and Gent know and as for Stubbs, he seems happy to blame everyone but himself. I can see a central defender, a striker and keeper being the priority in January.

 

I think we need a left back almost as much as we need a centre half.

Certainly need a keeper.

A potentially returning Jake Young and Vadaine Oliver may solve our problems up front in January?
