Couldn’t agree more. Our fans are so gullible. All it takes is a manager to say the right things to the papers and he’s the bloody messiah. Ridiculous!!! Bowyer is a poor manager.

Not sure if you’re saying this as a positive, negative or just a prediction. Personally I think being able to keep clean sheets and grind out results (either 1-0 wins or 0-0 draws) is a good ability for a team to have. If getting promoted this season means keeping it tight at the back and grinding out results then I will take it.

We're not devoid of options that is one of the options. We changed it when Devine came on and I'd guess we might change it when/if McCarten returns too. Just because we played a certain way in 1 game, the 1st game with all these new players it doesn't mean we will stick with it.

Can't help thinking that shape is being set up with Shay in mind. Gibson would be good there too. Still think we need width though and just play a 442.

Prior to Cambridge game, my assessment of where the current squad will finish is 12th.

Although the hype around automatics may be exaggerated, I really struggle to see 11 squads who are better on paper than ours like you suggest.

442 usually means more direct football which in this league is no bad thing. But the football purists amongst us might not think so

The Wigan game showed us you can play good football and 442.

    Pretty much the same
Getting that midfield sorted will be the crux.

    Nothing stood out quality wise.
Just hope into the Autumn we don't start with loss of confidence, as its a tough old league.

When we last got promoted we just finished 7th, with a squad superior to our current one.
This division is just as strong as back then

That's because we had the personnel to back up those systems. Currently I believe we don't - hence me saying we need a few more bodies in. Sign a decent ball winning midfielder, and that player can take control of the ball and quickly provide scannell on the break. Sign a decent left winger and that player can become an outlet if Scannell or midfield are getting marked out of the game.

LC final and promotion squad, and McCall's PO Final squad were all grafting players, with competition for places spurring everyone on, topped off with skillful players. I don't see this squad being far off, if we get a few more in and they all start to gel. We won't go up with a bench like we had on Saturday.

Palmer did what he was asked of him in that game because we don’t have any one else who can sit in front of the back 4. He was asked to collect from centre halves and keeper and keep things ticking over, he’s never going to be sliding Vaughan through on goal when he’s playing in front of our centre halves. We need Anthony grant or someone nasty in there to allow palmar to play higher up

It's just your personal preference. It's not necessary.

We dominated without width and Vaughan should have scored a header, not accounting for his overhead kick.

Different game if those go in.

Nothing to do with width, imo, or there would only be one formation in football.

I agree about the forward situation, Doyle not suitable for us unfortunately.

I'll be happier when McCartan replaces him.

Neither mate. We are not suited to play 4-3-3

Do you know under Pep Man City have spent 200m on full backs. Shocking isn't it? Man City finance fair play my ar&e.
Anyway the point about Man City is that to play 4-3-3 you need more than 3 forwards hence why Pep keeps improving on his full backs. I don't think we've the skill set to play it.

McCartan isn't good mate. I would rather you lace your boots and play for us.

It's League Two, you can get an advantage in any position simply by being all right at football.

You're over-analysing. The formation is largely irrelevant, unless you happen to have a winger fetish.

We don't need to be Man City to play 4-3-3, and as for your comments on McCartan and your subsequent comment that both he and Doyle should go, you're simply being unrealistic.

It's extremely unlikely, in my eyes, that we would sign a better player than McCartan and/or Doyle at this moment in time. As you will know from my posts, I agree that both are massive let downs - neither have represented good value for money, and they never will - but getting better is a fantasy at this stage of the season/transfer window.

In terms you'll no doubt agree with, O'Connor is a bell end and a player I'd like us to improve upon - but realistically he's going to get game time for two reasons: we aren't likely to sign a better centre back at this point, and because Paudie isn't quite ready to play first team football.

When Paudie returns, let's hope it's him and MRE, but we don't have that same luxury in terms of a number 10. It's Doyle OR McCartan, and on that basis, it's got to be Shay.

5 of the players Plymouth signed all played together at Bury, it's not like they are strangers to each other. They have all played for a promotion winning team. Did you expect us to steam roll Cambridge on the first day? We were the post away from 3 pts.
