No Width, No Pace, No Idea

If i'm playing a straight back four i'm not that bothered about my full backs getting up, there should be enough options already further up the pitch. I would try Mellor further up the pitch rather than full back, always gives an account of himself when played upfield.

 

The further wide you push Gibson the less effective he becomes. He's not really a wide player who puts crosses in, spent most of today looking for passes that were never on. Some good tackles though.

 

Generally yes, but don’t think it adds owt, this is league 2, just get it in the box.

 

Can't help but think (hope) it's very early days yet but considering he has had 5months to formulate a plan to hit the ground running he failed miserably When he was appointed in March we were finished as a L1 club no transfer window and the worst set of players in many a long year so his thoughts were focused on how to get us out of L2 I know what he did at Blackpool (I once ran 100m in 30 seconds but couldn't do it now) but it's his current management I am bothered about Maybe we are questioning him prematurely but another couple of games without a win/performance will raise serious doubts

 

Can I also add we was poor at set pieces.... No seriously shite

It’s game one. I was hoping the season would start last week. Now I wish we could go back to pre season. Panic stations already

 

We are all disappointed with the performance and the result. We are fans and want our team to win. However, I think the reaction may be other top due to what we witnessed last season. We were desperate to put it behind us, and no doubt the players felt that as well. So the normal gelling and settling in period fans give the team and manager is not taking place.

Might be time for a deep breath and let it go.....

The window is not shut yet, and no doubt GB has a plan to bring in the 2/3/4 players we need.

 

Maybe not, but the performances are an indicator. I was at Shrewsbury last season with my son and we walked away wondering how we had got a point, never mind all 3. We were dire and even then, it looked a season of struggles.

Not saying this will be the same, but if we don’t bring in 2-3 quality players in the next few weeks, we won’t be anywhere near the POs come May

 

But I wasn't ''happy'' as you put it with the performance today. I merely stated that questioning the manager after the first game of the season is ludicrous and is representative of the attitudes of Beeston supporters and feels like the ''sack the manager' mentality is growing stronger within our fan base, it does absolutely nothing for us, hence when we sat tight with Parky during his horrific streak we eventually reaped the rewards.. I do agree we need additions and I'm sure GB is knocking onJR/SRs door.

Can I just point out that it was YOU that said you think you’d get called a happy clapper before anyone (I) did. Didn’t actually see that comment until now, but you were right, it was rose-tinted stuff.

 

For most of the first half we controlled the game, so yes we strung more than two passes together

Did you seriously expect to be able to judge how our season will go after the opening game? When has that ever happened in football?

Bu what the fcuk does Anderson bring to the party.
He neither want's the ball or goes looking for it. Doesn't/can't tackle.
I honestly believe I had more influence in that game sat on my 'arris on my seat than him.
Not fan of Devine, but within two minutes of his arrival he'd managed to tackle, make a pass and a shot which pissed on anything Anderson had done in the previous hour

 

Doesn’t make his point invalid though. There was nothing on the pitch or stood in the technical area to suggest we will get promoted. He didn’t say that won’t change between now and September, but based on today, he’s right...!

 

And based on the first game of Norwich’s season when they got pumped 7-1 they should have gone down, but you can’t throw promotion/relegation predictions around on one game. Most people who understand the game will tell you you don’t get a clear picture until 10/12 games in there’s a reason for it. And he certainly wasn’t right about us not stringing two passes together if we didn’t it’s a miracle we had 22 shots and over 60% possession.

 

Couldn’t agree more. Our fans are so gullible. All it takes is a manager to say the right things to the papers and he’s the bloody messiah. Ridiculous!!! Bowyer is a poor manager.

 

But he didn’t say we won’t improve, just as Norwich did. But based on today, we won’t be anywhere near. That’s fair.

Did he say we didn’t put 2 passes together or did he ask the question? The passing at times was very poor. Doyle got hammered for falling over but on more than one occasion it was because it was played behind him or to the opposite side to where he was expecting it, putting him off balance.

Of course we can’t judge until after 10games. We certainly can’t judge until the window closes. But we should be allowed to form an opinion or we may as well close down the forum until the end of September...!
