Niall Canavan

Some of us on there think he's a decent enough signing, some are reserving judgement until they've seen him play. From what i remember of his when seeing him for Rochdale and Plymouth he's steady if unspectacular with most of his games played in league 1. Should be a good addition to what is a threadbare squad.

 

It has been suggested that Derek Adams will take over and was given the Chelsea game to manage at Morecambe and that Canavan is his signing? Who knows

I can’t see Derek Adams taking over now. If we wanted him we would have paid the small compo to Morecambe and got him in immediately.

Turnbull will know Canavan from their time at Scunthorpe.

Canavan was there 2009-2016, while Turnbull was there as chief scout between 2006-2011 and 2014-15, as well as the head of recruitment in 2016.

(As an aside, didn’t know he had Glenn Murray and Grant Holt when he managed Barrow but just read on Wiki).

 

Adams? If he can't win against a tin pot side like Chelsea then he isn't the man for Bradford City.

Best choice and a bit of a story behind it, Bradford lad from ball boy to club captain doesn’t happen to much in modern football.

 

Absolutely right choice. Just keeper to confirm. I think I’m certain who it will be but Adams can surprise? Not this time.?

Club captain isn’t the same as playing captain right?

 

Parker says 'skipper' but I know what you mean, he needs to be on the field captain which i'm sure is the intention..

 

I believe Adams brought him in at Plymouth when he managed there, good appointment as you say.

The right choice

 

Good choice for captain and imo also sees Hornby start the season between the sticks.

I'd have kept ROD there and just changed the captaincy but both keepers are much of a muchness so I don't see either option strengthening or indeed weakening us.

 

Canavan is a really good 'talker' and organiser. He's been forever in the ear of his fellow defenders and defensive midfielders without an armband, so giving it to him is acknowledging the obvious. Agree re keepers.

 

Great choice IMO. Funny looking back on this thread now, how much influence did Adams have on January’s signings?

It was always in my living memory, playing Captain and Club Captain. That’s why I posed the question?

The latter was always a more Ambassadorial role as well as someone for the playing staff , young and old to seek discreet advise from.
The former always concentrating on the playing side alone.

 

He will be a great Captain Dave, I honestly believe in doing so, Paudie could blossom?

You know who I called for keeper a long while ago , but let’s not be sure yet, Adams can pull a surprise?
