Newport County V City (Saturday 22/2/2020)

Newport you mean, should be an interesting game.

 

Well looking at Newport's pitch our lads will think their at home, so the pitch won't be a advantage.

 

Jimmy Scoular managed Newport for a time. Just saying.

 

Some right memories of Jimmy Scoular during his time at Avenue, Rodney Green being the best, but wont go off topic .

 

Newport’s pitch is worse than ours! Think they might play a Rugby on it?

 

Remember him throwing Frank Large over the wall and ref looking the other way. But yes off topic.

 

Yes just looked it up the ground is shared with Newport RFC, Dragons.

 

Is Newports ground the original Somerton Park, been there a couple of times and once saw Tony Leighton score a hat trick for City....

No. Its Newport Dragons RFC ground Rodney Parade(?) I think the football club are just tenants

 

The other half saw Norman Corner score a hat trick for city. He is not sure in was Somerton Park though 1968/69?

 

We will need to win the initial battles, be first to the ball and have our wits about us at both ends of the pitch.

 

Newport players throw themselves to the ground very easily

I think that's their 5th game on the trot that they have failed to score. You just know what will happen Saturday!

 

It would have been Somerton park, we had a really good record there and the last time we played at that ground 84/85 we won 1-0 with a late goal from John Hawley on our way to the 3rd division title. We've never played at their current ground so hope our good record against Newport can continue.

 

Just checked Terry Frost's book - Norman scored a hat trick in a 3-1 victory over Newport on 15th February 1969.
