When Adam Henley arrived at Real Salt Lake, we all thought we were getting a player that would at the very least challenge for starting minutes at right back.
But the thing that didn’t work out quite how we expected was Adam Henley’s season would work out. Over the course of 2018, he played in just five matches for the first team. The 24-year-old started only two of those matches, and he didn’t make a single MLS appearance after May 19.
From there forward, he featured exclusively for Real Monarchs, starting eight times for 682 minutes. He became a regular fixture in that team.
One must wonder how it happened for Henley, and what it means for his RSL career. With the expectations we’d had for him — perhaps unfairly, given he arrived having not played professionally since March 2017. That’s nine months without a match, and while that’s largely down to injuries, it did leave him very much on the rusty side.

85 appearances in 8 seasons, a lot as sub and recurring hamstring injuries. Bowyer took him on trial at Blackpool after he left Blackburn but he ended up going to the US so Bowyer decided against signing him.
So if he wasn’t good enough for him at Blackpool but he is now what does that tell us about the quality of the squad we’re putting together and our prospects for next season?Wakefield Bantam likes this. -
Bowyer must be happy with how he responded to his one on one with Bowyer during his Blackburn days : Ahead of the 2014–15 season, Henley was publicity called out by Manager Bowyer to fight for his first team place in the right–back position. In response, Henley said he’s determined to fight for his first team place for the new season.

Henley has already been on trial with Blackpool this term and Barry Taylor’s only concern is his possible wage demands.
Taylor said: ‘If his wage demands are not too high then sign him till the end of the season with an option of another year.
‘He would be a good squad back-up player. I think Blackpool were going to sign him but his wage demands were too much for them.’Utters0 likes this. -
this looks a good signing to me. must have something about him to be playing in the PL and Championship and getting senior Wales call ups. hopefully he can recover some form with regular games. Bowyer knows him well, that's for sure.

I can understand how this could be seen as a poor signing based on reviews from fans of other clubs however I think he is here purely as a back up. He is capable of playing both full back positions so saves us having to bring in two back ups. Bowyer knows him well and Henley needs to prove he can perform in the Football League again.
I am liking the way the defence is shaping up. I do think we need another centre back as I can’t see up relying on French but from the reviews we have a good left back in Longridge, we know that Mellor can perform in League 2 from his Blackpool days, we will have to wait and see about Richards-Everton and now we have a back up for both full back positions. If Bowyer can go and get us a solid centre back to partner Richards-Everton then I think we can all be happy with that.Briggus likes this. -

What I can confidently draw from the reviews is that he's 25, has achieved nothing in his career and as a result has probably come as an understudy to Mellor as opposed to a replacement. This is clearly stated in the op.Wakefield Bantam likes this. -
