The Bantams have moved to secure their sixth new addition of the summer after completing a deal to bring defender Adam Henley to the Northern Commercials Stadium.

The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year contract and arrives following a spell with Major League Soccer outfit Real Salt Lake.

The Welsh international is no stranger to English football, having represented Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League and Championship between 2011 and 2017, prior to his move to the USA.

The full-back has worked with Gary Bowyer in the past and becomes the latest addition to the City manager’s new-look backline.

He said: “I am over the moon to be here and am looking forward to putting good performances in for this team. Signing for such a big club was a no-brainer for me.

“Gary (Bowyer) was one of the main attractions. I do not think there is another manager out there who knows me as well as him.

“The supporters were also a huge factor in my decision to sign for City. To have this kind of support from the fans gives players a huge boost.

“The main aim, from my point of view, is helping to get this club back to where it belongs. That has to be the only goal."

Bowyer managed and coached his latest recruit for several years at Ewood Park and is delighted to have sealed his signature.

The Bantams boss added: “Adam is someone I know well from my time at Blackburn. I am really pleased we have been able to bring him here.

“He burst onto the scene at 17, playing at Anfield and Old Trafford in the space of a few days, before earning a senior Wales call-up.

“Adam has pace to burn and can operate in both full-back positions. With a full pre-season under his belt, he will become a real asset to our club.”

I'm starting to get excited now. Trying to convince myself not to expect too much next season with it being the first season back in the 4th tier, however I'm impressed with the signings we've made, their attitude and Bowyer's mantra of fixing the defence first and foremost

Looks a good signing, not a lot of recent games but no doubt has ability. GB flexing his contacts, like it.

@Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam you are making me wet with all this transfer news.

Sounds another promising signing. Still young, but plenty of experience at much higher level. Obviously, GB knows him well, so his character must not be in question. I am liking how GB is going about his business so early in the summer.

Be nice to see some announcements regarding coaching staff or assistant manager. Seeing all the departures and no replacements so far, is a bit unsettling.

    From the Blackburn forum:

...Henley , Feeney... if you aren't good enough then you aren't good enough. Loyalty and a good attitude only go so far, at some point you need to add talent in order to progress

...We don't want to end up with another Adam Henley.

...As for young fullbacks Henley and Bell are classic examples of having zero awareness.

...At one point Henley even looked a player, briefly.

What happened to Henley's form? He went from Welsh international who marked Stirling out of the game and turned into a clueless, shirt-tugging liability.

...Amazing that Henley can't even get into the first team of a minor MLS club. That kid has really lost his way. I mean, he always looked like a kid playing with men, but I wouldn't have expected his career to spiral as fast as it has.

In response to a thread named 'Worst ever player to play for Rovers':
"Adam Henley became out of his depth rubbish."

Total appearances in the previous 2 seasons: 8

There's a chance that league 2 might be more his level but i can't imagine he's been brought in to play first team football based on that.

Seems we’re going to be playing hoofball this season. With no target men.
    Where’s the midfielders?!

Don’t know anything about him, and doesn’t appear to have played any more than 24 games in one season, so has never really held down a place for a whole season.

I reckon he’ll be backup for the main full backs (Mellor/Longridge) and not considered to be a starter.

A bit of an unknown quantity but I don't think we can judge his ability based upon Real Salt Lake letting him go, RSL's team is far ahead of ours. Welcome aboard.

Wasn't that from a time when he was 17 and playing PL football though?

It's a world away to being 25 and in league two.

No. They are comments taken from 2018.

Weirdly enough, his reputation was at its highest when he came through as a youngster. Highly rated early on (whatever that's worth these days) but has failed to establish himself.
