Bowyer is on a short term deal (for whatever the reason), so why on earth would we give a 2 year contract to a goal keeping coach? If Bowyer was to leave in the summer and we had to get yet another new manager, they might not want Taylor as part of their team so we would be left to pay compo. I'm not particularly happy about the fact we only have Bowyer on a deal until the end of the season but if that's the case, it makes perfect sense to me that anyone he brings in as part of his team should be on the same contract - at this stage.

I always rated Maik Taylor when he was playing, great keeper. hope he's as good at coaching!

Maybe the club's planning for new ownership in the summer and wants to minimise the number of contracts that will be Inherited....

 

The fact that the club are still making appointments doesn’t suggest the finances are quite as bad as some suggest

Great appointment, if he's as good a coach as player then O'Donnell will be getting scouted by Madrid next!....

Okay, maybe not, but he was a solid keeper, who can only be a benefit with his experience

 

And funnily enough, while at Birmingham he was ousted from the number one shirt by none other than..... Colin Doyle

 

It does raise the question as to why we didn’t have one for so long yet now feel the need with only eleven games left. Its a welcome appointment but why was Hopkin without one for so long?

 

It’s about time we got specialist coaches in. I think with Andy Todd we have a defensive specialist one.

It does make sense, as you say Petrov, if you think about it - there are so many key issues up in the air (ownership, which division we will be in, so much to sort on the playing front, rebuilding the infra-structure within the club etc) but if all goes to plan I am pretty sure GB will be happy to commit to the longer term and then he can start to put his own team together both on and off the field with much more certainty
