If they give it to Sparks who is nowhere near qualified then that’s me fully done with this club. It needs an experienced businessman (or woman) to come in and make wholesale structural changes from top to bottom, it won’t happen over night but a clear strategy needs implementing and fast.
Sorry if it offends but Sparks is not that man, he’s got a journalism degree and has worked in comms since - he might be a nice guy but that doesn’t make him a competent, innovative businessman. A comms manager doesn’t get a CEO job in any walk of life. Another huge red flag if he does get it.

He might be really good at his current job, but that’s his wheelhouse, not the CEO of a company turning over what we do. Totally different kettle of fish. It would alienate the fans further than anytime in my lifetime - I’m 29 for what it’s worth and pretty much seen dross all my life (don’t remember the premier league). Beginning of the end if so, in my opinion.

I was joking.I agree entirely.Cant believe the club can keep getting things so wrong time after time.It seems they are just so blinkered about everything it’s their way or the highway.Rapidly alienating lots of paying customers. Not a recipe for success

If it is Sparkes why the delay from “identifying” to the big reveal?

Nobody should be surprised when Mr Sparks is announced to be honest it's the way we have done things for years a bad bad appointment as far as I am concerned probably a really nice guy competent in his current roll but he has been "taught" by the wrong person if we are expecting anything other than consolidation
Just another disappointing day in the life of a City fan

Someone with atleast some track record of running a business? It might not be as important if you have got a hands on owner, but we haven't.

No disrespect to Mr Sparks, but he's got a journalism degree and since graduating
all his previous experience has been in comms and PR.

I can imagine he's done a lot of learning on the job though. If you are working closely with a CEO and you are switched on, you pick up a lot.

Sparks will fly with supporters if he is given the job as CEO
He is not qualified and has no experience of being a CEO
We are on a dowward spiral and have been for the last few years
We need a CEO of experience and knowledge of how a football club works
and hopefully contacts wth interest in investing or owning our club
Sparks i plead with you NOT TO TAkE THE job of CEO

Can you guys remind me again, WHO said there's going to be a new CEO and what is the reason? Isn't it all just smoke and mirrors? I don't get it. IF there was some sort of statement, then why has there been no follow up?
    Genuine question.

Hey the Ex Mayor of London and now the Prime Minister of the UK has no experience in business and is an ex journalist.

Evidence you don’t need to be a competent business man to run a huge organisation.;)

Its a fair point. But while I think the Jenkins rumours gave a raise to the expectations, for me the minimum was to identify that the club has been mismanaged for a number of years and to bring in someone external with at least some experience. Especially given the fact our owner is distant from the club.

For what its worth, I think Sparks comes across very well. He's impressed in his role and seems like a knowledgeable guy in his field. But is it the shot in the arm that the club needs or much of the same? You would sway towards the latter and given the club's current trajectory, its a worry.

If Sparks is offered it no way would he turn it down much like Collins couldn't turn down the manager/head coach job a few seasons back..

JR first spoke about it at the online fan's forum in July. He later repeated it a couple of months ago and said his replacement had been identified and that the transition would be a smooth one. He couldn't have been much clearer.

Wait a min though. From what I read from that, is that JR has identified a suitable new CEO, but Rupp told him to hang in there. Identifying, doesn't mean it's going to happen. There's been plenty of young players "identified" as the next Messi, but nothing happens. I'm reading it as, lets say for example, JR has identified that Sparks (or whoever) would make a great CEO and predecessor to himself, but hasn't actually said he's leaving.

I read Rupp's comment as him being unconvinced that the person JR had identified was a suitable replacement and needed time to be convinced. If JR's candidate was Sparks then I'd certainly understand Rupp's concerns. But since the salary cap was introduced the financial position of clubs like ours has changed dramatically. It will become a profitable one once crowds are coming back into the stadium at their previous levels. All Rupp needs in that situation is a safe pair of hands who will pursue the JR safety first approach and protect his original investment.

It just says in the supporters board minutes of 29th October that "the intention of Julian Rhodes remains unchanged, to ensure a smooth handover. An appointment has been identified and expect some movement within the next 4 to 6 weeks (at time of writing)."

Isn’t crowds back at their previous levels a long way off yet.It could be too late by then.Mess the January window up like we usually doand we could be looking at some very nervy new year and onwards games.A safety first approach is why we are currently where we are.
