Mellor - How poor?

Cant be having that, i thought o'connor played some belting balls out last night.

 

And I got slated for calling him dog shit earlier in the season.

 

I'm not bothered what everyone else did or said Devine and BRE are the only players around, you can clearly see Devine is trying to play the ball if anyone should have picked up Atkinson run it was Mellor.
You watch again.

 

We have one in Henley and Bowyer still preferred Mellor how many more right backs do you want ?.

 

I definitely wasnt critisising AOC who was the pick of the bunch again but there were numerous times even he had to resort to the hoof because there was just no movement in front of him

 

Didn’t want to comment last night, it was all a bit emotional, wish I’d put a tenner on Willow scoring, it was inevitable from the moment he came on.
I just don’t get the criticism of GB for not keeping Caddis, go back to pre-season, we had Riley, Henley, Longridge AND Mellor all potential right backs, how many RB’s does a L2 team need FFS. Unfortunately Longridge out injured/homesick, Riley out for the season and Henley short of match fitness, rested after Saturday. I honestly think Riley would have nailed the RB position this season had he not suffered the injury. Just look at how CW has nailed it at left back, just as crap as Riley last season but Riley has a much better schooling and pedigree.
I think we’re pinning the blame on someone who at best is second choice, who adds height at set plays, and who GB trusts to do his best. We’re in the middle of a nightmare injury crisis and still deserved at least a point last night, come on people, a little perspective is needed here........although we always need at least one pantomime villain at City, appears that Mellor has taken over the mantle from Akpan!!

I get Mellor is a GB fav, given the choice he’d keep him all day rather than Caddis, I’d say mainly because he can play across the back line rather than being a one trick pony full back, I still think Riley would have made the position his own had he not suffered the injury, but we will never find out, maybe your right maybe not!! Let’s see if Henley gets the nod on Saturday.

 

I would say Mellor is a number 2.

 

Cooke or Devine should have tracked the run into the box. Both caught ball watching for me.

 

Agree. But he was bad on Tuesday. The ball full in the face at the end summed it up.

 

You can clearly see in the pictures Devine is trying to help BRE tackle the player with the ball, Mellor was the player who could seen Atkinsons run.
One thing I believe we can agree on is our defence have gone from a unit that dominated in the air earlier in the season to one that is far from dominant.

 

I’d prefer him to be able to play his preferred position to an acceptable standard before we even think about playing him elsewhere in the back line. The lad really has to up his game, his basics have been poor for a league 2 right back.

 

so what was that first half performance then? not one of them had a good first 45 mins.

 

A match is ninety minutes not 45. Over the 90 everyone played their part bar O’Donnell, who had feck all to do, and Mellor had pretty much had a stinker.

 

How can they play their part iover 90 minutes if they didn't in the first 45 minutes?!

Mellor, Devine, Akpan, Ismail all poor. We grew into it in the second half but we weren't fluent or great and not to make changes was criminal considering we didn't have many clear cut chances.

 

Mellor was spoken too at least twice in the first half by his team mates. He seemed to be somewhere else and offered very little. I would certainly drop him for Henley and hopefully he will get the message.

 

Mellor was very poor. Oteh was poor. Cooke was excellent, again. he's a real player.
whats going on with Vaughan? he constantly looks like hes on the periphery of the game. we need to get him involved more.
Zeli looked dangerous when he got the ball in a bit of space out wide. it didn't happen often enough, though.
