How soon we forget.

About 5 games in, the ENTIRE back line was getting heaps of praise.

He's on a poor run of form, boys and girls, it happens.

He's not the worst player ever.

 

Henley and McCarten must be wondering what they have to do to get a game.

 

Today I didn't!

He was poor today.

But it's the 'all season' thing I disagree with.

As for this particular game, Port Vale were ONLY useful in any attacking sense in the first half. The vast majority of their attacks came down the wing occupied by Wood and Oteh, NOT Mellor and Ismail.

That is because Amoo was their best player, but it's also noticeable that the two chances they did have in the second half came late from errors from Wood and Cooke.

Clearly today's defeat was NOT a result of Mellor's poor performance, despite the fact it was a poor performance.

It's all very skewed to single out a defender who didn't make the kind of catastrophic errors made by better performing players.

 

We had a box full of defenders to make that clearance but lets single out Devine.

 

Ridiculous that he's still here and we released Paul caddis.

 

Cant be having that, i thought o'connor played some belting balls out last night.

 

Didn’t want to comment last night, it was all a bit emotional, wish I’d put a tenner on Willow scoring, it was inevitable from the moment he came on.
I just don’t get the criticism of GB for not keeping Caddis, go back to pre-season, we had Riley, Henley, Longridge AND Mellor all potential right backs, how many RB’s does a L2 team need FFS. Unfortunately Longridge out injured/homesick, Riley out for the season and Henley short of match fitness, rested after Saturday. I honestly think Riley would have nailed the RB position this season had he not suffered the injury. Just look at how CW has nailed it at left back, just as crap as Riley last season but Riley has a much better schooling and pedigree.
I think we’re pinning the blame on someone who at best is second choice, who adds height at set plays, and who GB trusts to do his best. We’re in the middle of a nightmare injury crisis and still deserved at least a point last night, come on people, a little perspective is needed here........although we always need at least one pantomime villain at City, appears that Mellor has taken over the mantle from Akpan!!

 

And I got slated for marking him a 3 the other week.

 

Bowyer must be his biological Dad there’s literally no other reason for playing him.

 

Eh? Mellor was absolutely dire for the last few months of the season and defensively he's started off this year in pretty much the same vain.

I'm sure you just make stuff up to sound like you're analysing other things that people don't see.

 

Mellor didn’t close the first goalscorer down allowing him to pick his spot then got out muscled by akinson for the winner

 

Mellor's mistakes also caused Oteh and Akpan to get yellow cards last night. He's not great in the air, lacks pace, not a great ball winner and makes really poor decisions too often. How he got in LG2 Team of the season a couple of years ago beats me.

 

I don't need to watch it again you've answered my question.

Cooke or Devine should have tracked the run into the box. Both caught ball watching for me.

 

Henley was terrible in the second half against Crawley. We lack physicality when both him and Wood are in the defence

Largely agree that Mellor has been poor lately, but some of the comments on here are (as usual) laughingly OTT negative

He was nominated for the L2 player of the month for August, but if you listen to some on here you'd think he'd been our worst ever right back

Of course I realise that several of you know more about footballers than the Football League Panel

 

Got to say I really wish we’d kept Caddis.

Henley did ok yesterday but I don’t rate either of our right backs compared to the rest of the back 4. Always looks like our weakest spot.

 

Henley looks better than Mellor but both are not of the standard of Caddis. As you say Henley did alright yesterday, more so going forward than at the back. His cross for the goal was a belter.

Henley was out for a while then played a few games in a row.
I think he will be back on Saturday

 

We've literally been trying to get McCarten out the door since we signed him.
