Mellor - How poor?

Bowyer must be his biological Dad there’s literally no other reason for playing him.

Playing Mellor was a major mistake playing him and dropping Henley who has been playing really well and has the pace to defend but support the attack, Playing Mellor starved Ismail of any support in the first half and his lack of pace in the second was played on by Vale as they attacked down his side seeing the vulnerability of his game,
It showed Bowyers stubbornness that he spotted that Ismail was getting no support and getting nowhere but instead of bringing off the poor Mellor at half time and bring Henley on to give better pace and support he moved Ismail to the other wing where Wood could support him better,

Henley and McCarten must be wondering what they have to do to get a game.

 

Surprised he dropped Henley to be honest. But agree with everyone else; Mellor was shocking tonight

 

Not good enough should not have played tonight should have played Henley

Henley was out for a while then played a few games in a row.
I think he will be back on Saturday

I pointed out that Mellor was a carthorse after the first game of the season and he made some absolute howlers tonight. But he also played some excellent passes on the edge of their penalty area which created dangerous situations. All our players tonight had good and bad moments - that's what players are like at this level. Inconsistent. Henley is no great shakes either but he is quicker and perhaps better support for Ismael. But then you lose Mellor's height which can be useful in defence. Thought we were unlucky tonight. Could easily have won.

 

How soon we forget.

About 5 games in, the ENTIRE back line was getting heaps of praise.

He's on a poor run of form, boys and girls, it happens.

He's not the worst player ever.

 

That's what I'm saying - he hasn't been poor all season, as he wasn't poor for the first however many games when the defence was clearly the best part of our team.

Since the midfield has been reinforced, though, he's looked a bit of a weaker link.

Anyway, one thing that has been constant about Mellor's career to date as far as I'm aware is that he grows into a season. I've read a few times about how slow he is to start, and the same was true last season.

I'll agree that I'd rather have Henley play for now.

 

He has been poor, the work from the rest of the defense just made up for it

 

I'm not sure you could back that up, but you're entitled to your opinion.

But just like all things football, most opinions are formed on what's currently happening rather than what actually happened a few games ago.

 

He constantly gets turned by his man and you'll find we often concede down his side. Glad you see something nobody else does though.
