I think there were four incidents all told as you suggest Jon. How many times over how many years have we seen St Johns ambulance volunteers at games and not move a muscle ever? They do a fab job but sometimes on very rare occasions they could be overwhelmed especially if there are 17000 people in a small area at the same time. Got to be heat related for sure.

Agree it must have been very unpleasant with the full sun beating down all afternoon for fans in the Midland Road stand yesterday afternoon, the last I heard the old guy was doing O/K according to a post in the Newport thread.
This was the picture of the old guy being wheeled out in front of the Bradford End.

    Most likely the case.

Like I say, though, the stewards raised the ire of the crowd with their 'apparent' nonchalance. Not the guys that came round, but the kids that just stand there. One of them seemed like they were deaf, or perhaps a mannequin posing as a real person. I've never seen such lack of interest while people were literally screaming 'medic'.

Eventually someone came with a radio, and eventually someone from the response team walked slowly over.

I have to assume part of training is not to rush, as what use is a responder who is on the verge of fainting themselves, but it was slow.

Jon, I hope you have sent a message to the club with your observations. Stewards are not medically trained but should react quickly to any type of disturbance in the crowd-especially when a person has collapsed.

IIRC they are mainly located in probably the worst part of the ground if they are needed to assist in an emergency. They are sat in what appears to be an old dugout near where the players go up the steps to the changing rooms.

Maybe this needs a re think by the club? You would think they would have a presence in each stand as their main remit is to provide immediate (life saving) aid when required.

Hopefully some lessons from yesterday are learnt.

I know the missus was talking about sending the club a message, I'm not sure if she has done or not. I'm not sure any steward actually came up to check what was happening at any point, whether they're supposed to or not I don't know, but it would seem like common sense.

They would need heck of a lot of volunteers Keef to have numbers in each stand . That can’t be viable.

I don't know-2 in each stand is only 8 volunteers. I think they have around 4 as it is so not much more of stretch for them in all honesty.

My mum (a big City fan) used to be a volunteer before she passed away but never got the City gig.

Agree-they are quick to boss you about if you are not sat in the correct seat so it would seem logical they should also be proactive with other crowd control measures.

Though I have seen some of the stewards in the upper kop and am not surprised at the latent response yesterday. Quite a few needed literally reminding where to stand on the concourse in the upper Kop yesterday. Their TL must have the patience of a saint.

They'll never run to an incident just like paramedics never will as they are not allowed to. If one of them trips of falls whilst running then it takes away resources for 2 reasons and when they get to the scene you want them with a clear head not recovering from a sprint then if they did need to do something like CPR then they are not already tired.

Thankfully the fella who was taken ill at halftime on the concourse is OK.
I saw him update a few people on Twitter yesterday, he certainly didn't look well at all.
Echo Jon's comments really, the Stewards seemed to be in a state of shock for a couple of minutes before jumping into action.
