There was a medical emergency in the midland road stand today at half time and the stewards did not seem to handle this situation very well. A lady entered the field of play to try and inform the steward of the situation but it seemed to take an age for someone to respond. I think eventually it was the subs on the pitch who alerted to medical team who seemed to show no urgency at all. I hope the man or lady involved were ok but maybe the club need to sharpen up on this sort of thing.

The response did seem very slow. I hope the person needing help is okay.

I'll await facts before chastising our voluntary services

Don't we pay for their services? I seem to remember when we went bust we owed them money?

Pay em maybe (what does pay in the grotesque world of football equate to? ) but its St John's. With no disrespect but whilst these are skilled, it's not (I'm guessing here) to the skillset of a paramedic.

Stewards on minimum wage or a similar with a "voluntary medical service"... We should be careful not to be overly critical

I just think that using that as a reason wouldn't stand up if someone died and the response was shown to be slow. There should be processes in place that do not include having a fan run onto the touchline to get a stewards attention.

I think maybe the only thing the club co do, is make some of the stewards in each stand are first aid responder's or have st johns in each stand , rather than just have a few in one corner who have to walk half the length of the ground. The guy today certainly did not look like he could have moved much quicker.

From what i heard, stewards radioed for assistance as soon as they were made aware, but st johns took an age to get there.. not sure why supporters were hurling abuse at stewards.. what more could they do.. like people keep pointing out.. they on minimum wage.

Sounds like there were two incidents very close together both in Midland Road stand, one int eh concourse and the other in the stand

There were at least 4 different people carried out of the ground today. Three of those came from the Newport end. Perhaps resources were stretched due to that and thats why the response may not have been as quick as usual.

Sure there was a young child in the kop been assisted in the first half too, seems as though the hot weather hit a few folk. Not the best day for seats , in direct view of the sun. Some may have been better moving to seats in the shade

Nice one. Feel free to chastise the volunteers.

Alternatively, feel free to volunteer yourself

The only comment I would make on this matter is that the medical volunteers ie St Johns should be told to run across the pitch. They were walking round rather than straight across the pitch which is the shortest route. Nobody but the fittest should be sitting in full sun, but I have no idea how to remedy that problem.

The main reason I moved from that stand is that the sun is directly on you if you sit near the bottom which was obviously dangerous for some people yesterday. The sun gets In Your eyes too near the end of matches.

The St Johns do an absolute cracking job up and down the country. Whilst nobody should be immune to criticism full facts should be known. Not surprised people were taken I’ll yesterday never been so relieved for the sun to go behind the stand

Never been as hot at a match as yesterday, felt a bit iffy just before half time. Moved to upper kop second half, bliss.

The medics were stretched yesterday with another in the Sunwin stand as well as the Kop and Midland road, They do their best in a difficult situation, Some credit to them would not go amiss

The guy in the Midland Road stand was in the seat immediately in front of mine. I think he fainted, or certainly became unresponsive. Those next to him got him laid on the floor, and a lady, who I think had medical experience came across & tended to him till the medics arrived.
Took a while for stewards to realise what fans were shouting about, & for medics to arrive, but by the time they did & gave him attention, the guy was conscious, smiling & talking to people as they took him away in a wheelchair, so hopefully he was OK.

Some of the stewards at the front of the midland road looked like they didn't know what day it was or why they were there

I think it was the sheer unresponsiveness that angered folk at the bottom

Just respond and make it clear things are being done - I watched them and it was baffling - yes they eventually radioed, and I heard the slow response was due to another incident, but if that had been a heart attack (which I pray it wasn't) it would be unthinkable

    It's worrying
