I hope the new guy is up to speed. Foulds was steady enough, lacked going forward, his deliveries against Rochdale were abject, but he has played most games , where as the new guy has hardly kicked a ball in anger throughout his career and they are both 24 i believe. Another odd decision from the club- Hughes.

Probably not. This coincides with Ridehalgh returning to full training.

What bugs me more than anything, is that ridehalgh will be far from being match fit, and Ebola has a bad track record with injury. I pray I’m wrong but I really don’t have any confidence at all that we’ll get a result against Carlisle

Foulds may be a bit unlucky here. A victim of the change that needs to happen if we are to push on. Facts are we need to create more down both sides. Neither starting full back convince on this front. Hopefully the new lad will offer more attacking threat, pace, power and crossing accuracy. Foulds still has something to offer but needs to add more forward positivity to his game. Turns inside laying off to the CH too often for me. Good luck to him. Hopefully he comes back as a better version of himself.

    Post of the season.

At last someone who gets, this is what forward thinking clubs do.

Foulds and Young get improved at other clubs, improving us for the future.

Promotion next season ????? Mate the whole aim of this budget was to do it this season ......... you seriously think if we fail to do this season then the same numbers will turn up next season ????
Thousands will go missing and that will have an impact on next seasons budget .......... we ain’t blind we can see the weak link in that side sod the full backs sod the wingers it’s that pathetic midfield who offer nothing :( that should have been addressed as soon as that window open ............. I just got a nasty feeling that this season is about to implode in a very bad way

MH hinted in latest article in the T&A that the diamond is here to stay and he wants more from his full backs going forward. Its fair to say Foulds would be making way for Bola due to different styles

If we were doing this with talented youth players then i could see the reasoning, but we certainly ain't getting an improved Foulds back from Harrogate. And if Young gets a regular chance at Barrow i'd be asking my agent to look at making it permanent because its clear Hughes doesn't see either as a first team player. Not that there is anything wrong with that, football is a cut throat business and there is no room for sentiment.

Didn't he also quote the previous formation would be played by the team as long as he was here, I find it a little worrying he brings one of his ex-players Derbyshire in telling us he couldn't play last Tuesday night as we didn't have International clearance (or he believed that to be the case) no where to be seen on Saturday, now gets rid of a lad who has been a steady performer with little cover, Ridehalgh not kicked a ball in anger for us this season (just got back on the grass) according to Hughes, so were placing all our eggs in one basket (sorry for the pun) on a guy with a horrendous previous injury record, if it doesn't work out we can play Critchlow there or maybe Gilliead at left back ffs.

I've watch every game this season and I bet we've conceded more goals from our right hand side than our left, yes Halliday gets forward better but at times he left much to be desired with regards his defending in the box, remember Tuesday night no need what's ever to challenge the Rochdale player he was going away from goal just usher him out of the box, and with regards high ball into the box I can remember at least 2 goals where he was no where near the player who scored, but because the lad gets forward all the defensive stuff is forgotten.

Great post. Perhaps for Foulds the reasons for the longer contract is he is in the clubs plans, but at the start of this season likely as back up to Ridealgh. Probably played more games than expected let’s be fair and with this move it keeps him at relevant standard, so chance to develop into the player we want for longer term.

As for how it leaves us, well on paper Bola is what we need. We have just less than half the season to seriously step up on recent performances and need to become a much more offensive team. We miss pace and ability to pressure the opposition on the back foot in long periods of the game - something I don’t think is in Foulds locker just now.

So for me, it’s a wise move from the club and as @JonButterfield@JonButterfield rightly mentioned, a sign of a forward thinking club rather than tinpot.

What makes you think either would want to return to the club
Foulds in particular he has been shipped out to make way for a player who has played less games in his career than Foulds has in a season and didn't look at all happy
Would be very surprised if you see either of them in a city shirt again

Thinking about it, the start of the regression seemed to coincide with when we first started to hear Ridehalgh was on his way back from injury. Maybe Foulds started to think his time playing week in week out was at risk around that time and it started to affect his performances. If that was his thinking, it's no wonder he went into full panic mode when we brought Bola in as well.
Like you, I've nothing against him and he's never really let us down, but if the lad doesn't have confidence in his own ability and thinks he's going to be dropped the minute another player is available, I can't see Hughes having faith in him going forward either. Unless Harrogate 'develop' him of course, lol.
