No thanks. Derek Adams with a personality. Someone who gets smaller teams reaching above their station with negative tactics. His Barrow team were one of the most negative teams I’ve seen in many a years, we’ve seen with Adams this is fine at the dog and duck but our fans turn on managers quickly.

 

I mean look at Hughes… one loss and its the end of our promotion campaign…

give it a few weeks and people will be waxing lyrical about him when we get a run of wins together.

 

Its not really about one loss though. Yes, there's a hysterical element with all fan bases and because ours is the largest in the league by far, you see it more. Layer on top that our fans have been turning out in large numbers for years and have generally been rewarded with nothing but incompetence and failure for the last 20 years, save for 3 or 4 years under Parkinson.

The real rub is, I think a significant portion of our fan base, maybe even a majority, have concerns or questions over Hughes. Just as a case can be made that we weren't far off last season, a case can be made that he should have done better with the backing he had and has failed to address obvious flaws in our approach since the start of last season. You could take it further and say we were bang average and it was only down to the excellent individual contribution of Cook that Hughes looked credible at all. For many, this summer and the start of the season will go a long way to answering questions that have been building for a year, and today's team selection, tactics and performance are a huge red flag. Maybe its just an opening day duffer, but if we stick to the same system and similar line up, the month of August will only see the noise grow louder because we'll be in the bottom 6 come the end of it.

 

Can you answer my question about Wrexham and Notts County? They both conceded 5 goals should they sack their managers even though they both got promoted last season with their managers. Should they be sacked? If not them why Hughes? I.E why do we give our manager less slack than opposing managers?

I'm not really interested in either Wrexham or Notts County, and don't know enough about the context of either other than to say they both achieved success last season whereas we didn't.

I wouldn't sack Hughes yet either, that'd be a nonsense. The time to assess, is approaching the January window.

 

You know what I mean. I am aware they are still here, but he has ripped up the solid formation of a 4 at the back for no sensible reason.

He played our only wing back at centre half. Our 2 solid full backs from last season hung out to dry with their new wing back roles, and criminally selected Taylor over Platt.

All totally bonkers if you ask me, and if we had have been playing a decent team, we would have been hit for 5 or 6 yesterday.

 

Because the managers of County and Wrexham achieved their remit of progression and promotion. It’s not about the opening game of the season, it’s where the team finds itself on the opening day of the season. I’m not for sacking MH, but I certainly think RS should be looking at results in blocks of ten.

 

Got home from a 60th with my better half (who is from Bradford, small world) close to midnight, paid my $19.00 for the midnight kick off. What a load of crap we are, worst ref who looked a little Hitler of a Twit to make things even worse.

 

Yesterday’s performance has. not improved overnight. When I read the team sheet yesterday I had no idea what formation we would play. I thought it was some cunning plan to confuse the opposition.

I could witter on about players not being good enough and tactics but the stark truth is staring us in the face. Our club is being run really well behind the scenes but nobody behind the scenes appear to know how to run the main event. Manager after manager fails. Why? We are told our ST money is being put to good use. so why can’t we recruit? Why did we all watch that shambles yesterday and know what is required?

It looks like Hughes is trying to have at least two styles of play within his squad. Great in theory but we probably cannot afford it so we end up with some kind of hybrid.
What is of great concern to me is it looks like the club has wasted our ST money again. It is early days, and we will have to see how the campaign pans out but any thing short of promotion and the fans will not forgive.

it is not just the manager but a whole rethink on how we run the football side of the club.

Interesting to see where Moore goes next. The public way he was called out for his demands at Sheff Weds won't do him any favours. Think he'll likely get offered a lower champ or higher L1 role after last season, rather than drop to L2.

 

Would be a very popular choice with our fans. Not sure he would drop to league 2 right now though

 

As negative as Hughes it might have got results to a fashion but the football was crushingly negative.

 

I cannot understand folk actually bringing Wrexham and Notts county into this when they have nothing to do with what's going on here ........... You can put good money on that either of them.clubs will have a good reaction from there defeats unlike Hughes

Honestly I will give him 10 games including the cups and if we are nothing near then it's a bye from me ...............folk can go on about time to gel etc etc he's had 18 months to get this right and yet we still look nothing near .......

 

You are telling me that the two teams that were strong favourites to at least get the play offs and two of the reasons people on here were saying we wouldn’t get the play offs, have “nothing to do with us”

In short, you are saying we cant compare to potential rivals? Why? Everyone and their dog was comparing us to leyton Orient and Stevenage last season… again proves my point we give everyone else more slack.

 

A run of one win would be a start....

 

Course we should be comparing us to them with the right man at the helm but sadly we ain't got that man.

Wrexham losing and Notts county losing has no bearing on us sod what they did it's what happened at Crawley yesterday that bothers me the end

 

Its not just about 1 loss though is it? Hughes (and Hodges, Gent) have had a year and a half to fashion this team and it's not unreasonable to say we are less effective than in MH first 2 months at the club.
The emotional madness as you describe it is to react as if this is just all about yesterday.

In Hughes after match interviews he has been saying we will learn and we will get better - for over a year now! At some stage in the near future it actually needs to happen
