A draw would have been a fair result yesterday, Walkers goal papering over the cracks of a large uninspiring disjointed performance. Yes we improved second half, but rated against what? That first half? We couldn't have been any negative, the goal coming against the run of play.
Let's call this for what it is, performances have been somewhat disappointing so far this season, we haven't dominated one half of football due to Hughes tactics.
If he persists with this bloody back three centre backs rubbish I predict the fans will turn on him.
Do away with it, stick to a back four and concentrate on getting Cook his mojo back cos.im not enjoying watching him walk round the pitch with a face like a slapped arse.
I'd like to see Richards, Stubbs, Platt and Halliday.
Make sure we get the impressive Pattison further up the pitch (he was deeper than MacDonald at times yesterday) and let's see what MacDonald and Smallwood can do in the middle.

I said before, if Hughes stumbles upon a winning formula, it would be more by luck than judgement. He's completely run out of ideas as to what to do, and that is the sign (for me anyway) that a change needs to be made. He's tried formation changes, not worked. He's had a clear the air meeting (after Morecambe), yet we're still seeing the same defeatist attitude. We've a massive squad to choose from, with only a couple more to comeback, yet we still regress. We've had less than 10 shots on target in 3 home games, despite being told we'd play on the front foot. 2 points from 3 games we should be winning is relegation form. There are absolutely no signs of encouragement and the fans have had enough. There is no light at the end of the tunnel that I can see. Maybe Jake Young was right when he called him out and maybe, he was the only one strong enough to say what everyone else was thinking.
This really is depressing and as much as it'll put us back in the spotlight for the wrong reasons, if he has resigned no one can say that he wasn't given the tools to make a good go of it. He just didn't know how to use them. I honestly believe there'll be less than 10k in the stands next home game. Poor performances, lack of excitement and no attempts to score are hardly a recipe for getting me down to VP.

Maybe investors wanted Hughes to be hired. Ever thought of that?

Being Welsh myself , what i will say about Hughes is , he wont big himself up to be something he's not . Unlike a few of our previous managers ( Adams and Grainger come to mind ! ) Everybody get behind him , get this shitshow of a season over with ( hopefully in the same division next season ) and start afresh in the summer . ( Ps dont even give the players a holiday ,, they dont deserve it !! )

I'm happy to eat my words. I said no high profile or quality managers would be interested in the job and that the best we could hope for would be Wellens, Evans or Morais. Pleasantly surprised that someone like Mark Hughes is interested in managing our club in the state it's in.

I think both Ridehalgh and Foulds are decent fullbacks at this level

Trueman should go back to youth management or the link up.

Hughes will bring his own team in.

Looks like I'm late to the party. On paper it looks a decent appointment, a guy with a history in the game to rival anyone and a managerial career. That said, I'm not getting that excited knowing that Sparks and Rupp are still at the helm of the ship.
I'll reserve judgement until I see the quality of player brought in to the club next season.

The investment in January was unforgiveable considering we were just off the play offs.

Walker, yeh. Rest are bang average or absolute dross. Especially the two strikers - an area we continously overlook as important.

I'm quietly optimistic regarding Hughes, I like his demure, friendliness and honest modesty.
His appointment has a feel of McFarland about it.
He may well be here to dust the cob webs off himself, If/when he gest promotion with us he may well move on.
So, no nastiness like McFarland got,, I hope folk just accept it is what it is.

Good luck to Sparky and the boys and don't forget the Ukraine at 3 30

The more I think about Hughes appointment, the more bizarre it seems.

Hes our highest ever profile manager. Only 7 other managers have managed in more premiership games. And he's joining us at our lowest ever ebb. It makes no sense. Surely there'd have been championship jobs he'd be in the running for? Or at the very least, L1 jobs with powerful, ambitious clubs.

So why come here? There more i think about it, the more I think its a precursor to fresh investment or new ownership. More whispers circling about the same this weekend....

I may be wrong. It may be exactly what it says on the tin. But the logic doesn't stack up and a couple of Hughes comments point the way of further changes coming too....

Have you EVER contributed a positive post on this forum?? Unbelievably negative every single time

I want to see a manager in charge for at least 2 seasons, we have lacked any sort of consistency and continuity since PP. Of course it is frustrating at times, but we’re in LEAGUE TWO ffs….the most inconsistent league ever, full of inconsistent managers and players. Even if you browse Orient or Stevenage forums (for example) their fans still piss & moan about how they could be better. We are not alone. Some of our fans have learned absolutely feck all over the past few years

    Absolutely fecking pathetic thread IMHO

Would anyone seriously be contemplating the sacking of Mark Hughes, seriously give your heads a shake, we're sat in a very good position to STILL CHALLENGE for an auto place and even if we don't achieve that IMO we'll stay in the play offs, yes it does boil down to the best team on the day but to be even thinking of sacking Hughes is beyond belief.

I have to disagree with you.

As much as I rated Hughes as a player and acknowledge that he played under some great managers, all of his experience has been gained at the highest levels of the games. I simply don't believe that he understands lower league football and that copycatting what PL teams do tactically and in terms of formations etc don't transfer automatically to the khazi league. It goes without saying that the quality of the players at our level is very different to those in the PL!

I'm not simply reacting to last night 's disappointment, I said something similar at the start of the season. At the time I believed that Hodges would provide Hughes with his own lower league experiences but that doesn't appear to have been the case. If we don't get promoted this season, we'll need to do something very different next season whether that's changing our approach, getting some pace into the team, introducing some battling qualities into the squad, improving the on-pitch leadership or maybe all of them. And I really don't believe that Hughes, whatever his qualities, is the one who can bring about those changes and take us forward. Unfortunately I don't see anybody else in the building who can help him to make those changes.
