Sutton will bang balls into the box from distance and on this season's showing thus far, I'd much prefer Songo'o was underneath them. Timi's got alot of pace and promise but is indecisive when the bombs are falling. Yann may not be the most cultured but he's a proper put it all on the line impact defender.

I thought Platt did well until his silly sending off. Halliday had a good game. In fact that back four (five) is starting to play well as a unit.

The referee was clearly out to prove himself - in other words, trying far too hard.

Have to say I've felt miserable with recent results and that Harrogate disaster, but tonight was just one of those nights when our lads were magnificent and what a game! Mark has shown he can get to grips with his role in this division and another display like tonight's on Saturday and we'll be in the mix again.

 

A good ref would have just had a word knowing that it would be a second yellow ...

 

But that doesn’t make tonight’s referee wrong.
It just makes him a different referee to one that would have a word .
Kicking the ball 50 yards away after a foul will nearly always get you a yellow card and as he had already been booked it was a stupid thing to do.
I’m not defending tonight’s ref as I cannot for the life of me figure out where he got 10 minutes from but I thought both Platts cards were correct if you go by the strict letter of the law.If other refs choose to referee a game differently and use a different approach then so be it.They are not robots and all of them see things slightly differently and have different ways of refereeing just as we see things differently as fans.
All tonight’s performance does is put him in to the “referees who we think are shit because a particular decision went against us”category.
Saturdays ref might be from the “referees who you don’t notice” category.
As fans we are so blinkered towards refereeing and
I guarantee that the next time a slightly iffy decision goes for us we take it with both hands and if it leads to us getting three points we will celebrate as if it never happened.

 

It's debatable that it was even a foul which is why he kicked the ball away in frustration, yes I will admit that he shouldn't have done that but more embarrassing was the conduct of the Mansfield players rushing up to a very weak referee in order to get Platt sent off.

 

I agree. Normally, yellows for kicking the ball away happen when the ref has blown, play has demonstrably stopped, but then the player kicks the ball away in a manner that could never be confused with a normal action. Platt's kicking of the ball looked to me like it was the ball he was going to play anyway, and he'd probably committed mentally to doing it before the ref blew. Very, very harsh, and a reflection of the ref's self-grandiose performance all night.

 

Good win against a team that will be up there.

 

He's a very odd character is Clough, and I don't think i'd like him as our manager

He has hung Perch out to dry there, exactly same as he did last season when he slated their player for being old pals with Vernam. Very poor man management and will do very little for the teams confidence

Cook, Smallwood, but in particular Sparky - the way he behaved in front of us at the final whistle, i've never seen a City manager so genuinely buzzing at the end of a game. Absolutely unreal scenes, hopefully many more to come!
