Right decision in my opinion for tomorrow, although I think Tuesday should go ahead.

Abroad on holiday at the moment and it felt strange hearing the news from afar. That said it looks like wall to wall coverage on BBC World Service channel over here.

Plenty of locals and other nationalities showing respect when they cotton on we are from the UK.

No worries, I was just irritated by the the whole ‘get over it’ attitude which sadly I hear too often.

I’d estimate around half a million football fans will have to ‘get over it’ this weekend due to the PL and EFL knee jerk decision

Oh I'm not worrying. Just as others have pointed out, some prioritise football in their lives and I have to respect that even though I might not agree with it.

I guess the extent to which people are upset about the cancellation of matches will correlate quite strongly with how attached they are to the monarchy or, specifically, the Queen.
Although I'm 66, so have been around for every decade of the Queen's reign, I've never understood why people get so emotional about the idea of monarchy or the Queen herself.
She was clearly a hard working and honest woman who did her very best for the country, but the role she played is, to me and many others, an anachronism in this day and age. When I see people in tears because a mega rich woman who was born into power and privilege, and whom most people have never met, has died, it completely baffles me.
I'm happy for people who want to mourn, by not attending public activities like football matches, to do so. I'm also happy to observe a minute's silence before kick off as a mark of respect. But for the life of me I can't see why it is necessary, or what is to be gained, by calling off fixtures other than on the day of her funeral.

You only have to glance over other clubs forums to see what other fans think and look what celebrities on Twitter are saying to realise that only the minority think cancelling events was the right thing to do.
The PL and EFL have made the wrong decision here in a knee jerk way.
Sporting events are an ideal way of gathering large masses of people to show their respect.
All the PL/EFL have achieved is the provoke resentment instead of celebration / respect

Not sure why they've done it. For most folk north of Watford the Royal family is a bit of an irrelevance. Nice to visit a castle now and then but in reality they are.far removed from most football fans.

See where you are coming from for in the past, I have always regarded the system as belonging to the middle ages. However, we have recently had president Donald and this country would have had president Boris. Perish the thought.

But why? We have an elected Prime Minister. Why would we need a President as well?

Dunno. Could be something to do with PMs being appointed by the crown and I seem to think there is an outdated ruling whereby the crown can object to a PM. If that is the case it would probably go back to the previous Charles.

I am sorry for the people who are going to have their weekends ruined I hope they have no trouble with refunds if they so want.
I do think as a one of mark of respect for the Monarch who has represented our country for 70 years it’s the least we can do.
I know a lot don’t agree and that’s your right and I am not going to argue over this it is just my opinion

Well they expect the nation to down tools and respect? It’s not our mother who’s barely cold yet Charles is ‘going about business’ like nothing has happened.
Out of respect you’d think her family would mourn together rather than galavanting round the country doing duties.
Instead us mere civilians have it rammed down our throats morning noon and night expected to cancel all our plans.

I think this is the right decision this first weekend out of respect for Her Majesty but I hope Tuesday nights match is on.
We will end up playing Mansfield in a few weeks when our team has jelled more so this is not a bad postponement it works in our favour as we are getting stronger by the week.

I agree just look at the headlines in the worlds newspapers today to see what this lady did for this country. Tributes from the USA at the Same time from Russia.
As you say a one of show of respect seems appropriate

First weekend and THATS IT UNTIL THE FUNERAL, happy with that, but beyond that I have zero interest. Charles has led the way….business as usual it seems?

But the point of the discussion was that if we didn't have a monarchy we could end up with President Johnson. So I'm saying that if we didn't have a monarchy (who could theoretically reject a PM) then why would we need a President as well as a PM?

We did have “President Johnson” who modelled himself on Trump until his colleagues decided he was an electoral liability . They are still trying to defend him by trying it to absolve him from scrutiny by the Standards Committee. What are they wanting to hide…….Bets it’s Russia?
