Would find it highly concerning if McCann was their main target and we couldn't convince him to join us. The man hasn't done anything of note in football management.

From the poor 3 in the bookies running its Warburton that we should be going for with his vastly experienced team.

I don't want to see Edin welcoming rubbish div 2 players a to the club.

We don't need Yes men at this club now.

If not Warburton then take a chance on manager that hasn't managed before but has plenty of contacts in the game.

It would be nice to have a decision in the next 48 hours. Maybe finding someone to wholly buy into Edins philosophy is taking longer than he thought. What we need to avoid is scenario similar to his first appointment, where they sign up to the deal but don’t really agree with how it works.

The next person should go into the role with their eyes wide open for everybody’s sake.

Edin: ‘Thank you for your interest in the role of Head Coach. A key principle of our strategy is targeting exciting young players between 20-25 years old who can perform for our fans, develop further and then be sold for large fees’

Coach XYZ ‘That’s fantastic to hear. In my previous roles we’ve largely had to rely on cast offs, the loan market and old pros looking for a last contract. It’s refreshing that you’re willing to pay what it takes to go out and sign these types of players’

Edin ‘if you have the right contacts it’s cheaper than you’d think’

Coach ‘really? Well, I suppose you are only a few miles down the road from both Manchester clubs. Liverpool aren’t much further away either. And there’s always the likes of Huddersfield of course, they’re doing very well now so I imagine it’s an option for us to look at their fringe players,

Edin ‘well yes, sort of. And as you know I’m from Germany and have excellent contacts at F.C. schplunkemdunken in the regional 4th tier of the Black Forrest League. We must exploit this’

Coach ‘Okaaaay. Any relationships with local clubs at all...?’

Edin ‘Barnsley. We’re well in at Barnsley. Clubs like that release young players who aren’t quite good enough for this level all the time. We just need to coach them’

Coach ‘I see. Well I suppose people do make mistakes when they release young players.... What sort of wage budget are we looking at?’

Edin ‘don’t worry about that. You just coach the players’

Coach ‘it’d be useful to know what level of player I can attract though,

Edin ‘they all want to come here. We pay big bonuses. For example, if we’re promoted, everyone receives a large bonus’

Coach ‘excellent. I like the sound of that. So you’re saying we’ll have the finances to build a promotion side and attract players with the financial rewards on offer?’

Edin ‘well not exactly. Mid Table kind of budget really. We’re patient. We want to develop players so don’t worry, you’re not going to be judged on results alone’

Coach ‘ok. And the fans are on board with that?’

Edin ‘no, we’ve told them we want promotion’

    Coach ‘huh?’

Edin ‘promotion. They expect promotion. And exciting football. And if you can’t deliver that, we’d have to consider your role. But we’ll tell you before hand. We won’t just sack you over the phone or anything. We’re not monsters’

Coach ‘erm.... can I ask, why didn’t you keep Grayson?’

Edin ‘well we offered him a deal, he just didn’t believe in our vision’

Coach ‘does that concern you? He’s been very successful in this league’

Edin ‘we didn’t want him anyway’

Coach ‘OK. So, to summarise, I must go after young players not considered to be good enough at this level by other clubs, make them good enough through Jedi style coaching and play attractive football. I have a mid table budget and should persuade people to come here because we’ll offer incentives for promotion, but promotion isn’t expected of me and there’s no pressure to deliver promotion by you, but the fans will expect a promotion challenge. And if I don’t deliver, I’m gone?’

Edin ‘I think you have this!’

    Coach ‘I’ll be in touch’.

Agreed! Although we should all support the new manager whenever he arrives, I don't think that McCann's record is better than Stuart's, so it seems more of a sideways move in that respect. Warburton might be the best qualified but I doubt very much we could afford him (and his team) and we almost certainly could not give him the budget he would want. He is probably destined for the Championship I would suspect. If it is the surprise candidate in Drury, then we should back him, he knows Edin and the constraints that any new manager will have to work through, the players and the youngsters - we have to wait to be amazed by his coaching skills and leadership but, who knows, he might just pull it off? He would need an experienced hand as DOF besides him though. Finally, if we take a chance on an untried manager then I would hope its someone like Robbie Stockdale - seems to have something about him, knows the PL reserve league, will have good contacts and has probably learned his trade and deserves a chance.

I think the Warburton talk is another Keiffer Moore situation, never gonna happen but it looks good to have top names knocking about, McCann is a more realistic target imo.

I don't believe for one minute us fans won't get behind the new man, at the end of the day we all want the same thing for our club and that is suscess.

I wouldn't say no to David Hopkins, who apparently Carlisle are after. I know he was probably chief culprit in our fall from grace, but that might mean someone who would like to make ammends

Certainly, fits the criteria and we need to forget the past

Agree but if you take it a step further and the rumours are correct Drury is a shoe in, as he's already onboard and knows the Germans model.

I think Hopkin is unfairly maligned. He was a driving force in midfield in the early part of the season, superb against Liverpool away, then that Chelsea game. The crunching tackle at Darlo that effectively finished his career was hardly his fault. There were far worse culprits in that squad than he.

I think many of us were so pissed off with revelations and events, we were all looking for a 'scapegoat' - and Hopkins' loss of form did the man no favours. But yes, quite a few under performed in those days.

Hoyle also personally funded their canal side training complex. Before that they used the university facility
