Think about it. It’s absolute genius from edin. Put a rumour out that we are going to appoint our under 18 coach/ club plumber as manager, spread mass panic, then actually appoint mark warburton. It’s “bread” and butter amateur psychology

Wonder if David Hopkin's on Edin's radar? Just won successive promotions with Livingston and he's out of contract this summer.

Absolute nonsense. Until Hudds were promoted from the Championship to the PL, Hoyle has continued to fund the club despite the many millions they have received from selling players. That was the main reason why ML & JR said they weren't in a position to fund our club even when we were in the Championship.

As an example, when Hudds were promoted from Div 1 to the Championship, Hoyle is to be applauded for providing about £20m to his club to fund their higher wages etc over about 4 years. He had also provided many millions on top of this to fund transfer payments for additional players - nearly £2m for example in 2011/12 alone - which they hoped to sell on at a profit at a later date. Hoyle referred to it in detail in his Chairman's Report. By the time they were promoted to the PL, his funding of the club (without the extra he had also invested in their training facilities) had increased to £52m. Or if you do the arithmetic, Hoyle provided the club with another £32m over the four years whilst in the Championship.

In my mind, that is the club hardly being self sufficient. If Rahic were to adopt the Hoyle model to fund the club's losses and he were to define 'being self sufficient' per your description, we will all be looking forward to our club having a huge war chest to get into the Championship and then to maintain our position there. But it ain't going to happen!

We need to nip this in the bud about us using Huddersfield as some sort of yard stick as to how we are going to progress in the future. We are nothing like them either in terms of first team backing or infrastructure. They have a chairman who has pumped 10s of millions into the club, this of his own choice primarily because he is a huge supporter of the club. If we are going to liken oursleves to a rival club and its strategy then we are a cut price Peterborough.

Not necessarily. Say, for example, Guy was made available and we signed him for a fee of £250k, you’d suggest that was a poor signing?

We signed Jones under s similar guise and hoped that he’d improve more than he has. You only have to look at Moore who wasn’t rated by Ipswich do they loaned him out. He had a good 6mths at Rotherham and ended up back in the Championship.

So really, you can develop players whilst remaining competitive, but only if your scouting is decent. Sadly, Abbott isn’t known for seeing potential and that has proved to be the case

Absolutely right. Somebody else (I forget who exactly) said something similar to Park only recently conveniently forgetting that at the last count Hoyle had put £52m into subsidising Town's playing budget over the years (despite the millions they'd earned from developing and then selling players) and that he'd also funded investment in paying millions in transfer fees for younger players to go through their development programme. That was Hoyle doing what he wanted to do. No coercion; no false promises; no weasly words but just action on his part.

We can only wish for how Hoyle subsidised Town in the year they won promotion to the Championship. According to Hoyle, that season, Town's playing budget was 20% higher than the 2nd highest and 50% higher than the 3rd highest! And that's well-run, frugal, self-sufficient Huddersfield Town. We can but believe dream of anything similar!

But we're running a development squad too. That's costing somewhere between £300-500k. That's coming out of the first team pot.

If the strategy was to buy quality players under 25 then I don't have a problem with that. As long as they are good enough.

The problem is we are signing players who aren't good enough for the first team at this moment in time.

Absolutely correct. If we were to buy players who are really good and can hold their own in league 1, then develop them, I could live with that, but not if we continue to buy raw recruits.

Didn’t the Huddersfield, drop lucky when a billionaire fan bought their club, we were not as lucky unfortunately.

Could we afford to buy players who from the get-go were good enough to hold their own in league 1?
