I simply don't care about Leeds. We have spent about 3 seasons together in 30 years. They mean absolutely nothing to me!

It was nice to beat them a few years ago and wind a few mates up but I don't even hate them.

 

Perish the thought but to get back to the thread......

Would Heckingbottom be any good? Outside of the 6 minutes he spent at Leeds has he shown he'd be a good manager for us?

 

Playing career means f all when it comes to management

 

We possibly all have our favorites amongst those names as possible coaches, I'm sure for every positive offered someone will counter with a negative, I thought Heckingbotom did well when he took over from Lee Johnson and thought he was a fool for accepting Leeds offer, some where along the line they as we will get the correct fit, just a matter of how quick our new coach fits Edin and Edin fits the our new coach.

It was mainly the 60’s and 70’s . The Billy big balls sucking in so called “fans” from all over Yorkshire. Won a few bits of cups etc, these so called fans wrecked places....and promptly pi55ed off when the club spiralled out of financial control.

It’s legacy runs true in the older City fans and rubs off into the younger ones for some reason. Yet oddly these younger fans have little or zero experience of them

So pl players automatically become better managers by virtue of playing in the top flight? Warburton played non league for a short period then became a trader, while Tony Adams had a great career at arsenal under a certain mr wenger and was a terrible manager

 

It’s more about personal qualities and man management. However I concede contacts made over a career could be important

 

Certainly never stopped this guy José Mourinho who was hardly renowned for his football career.

And then you have this guy Bobby Charlton who had an illustrious career but couldn't manage.

 

I didn't say you're automatically a good manager. I didn't say you can't be a good manager if you were in Non League.

But to say It's not relevant is wrong.
The vast majority of Manager's are ex-pros. That is a fact.

I agree to an extent. You must learn more from high level coaching in the PL though. You must have a better understanding of the game having been coached by some of the best in the world.

However, it doesn't guarantee anything. Be interesting to see how Lampard gets on at Derby.

 

There is a merry go round of managers with a lot of the same tired names resurrected. An influx of new young coaches is needed

 

He'd be no bigger risk than any of the other managers on the list, in my opinion, and hopefully given his time at Barnsley and L**ds he has a good knowledge of local (young) talent.

I'd be happy to give Heckingbottom a go in the absence of an absolute stand-out candidate.

 

Different discussion as my original point was that it was a different time and different circumstances which you blithely ignore. Whether I am correct in that assertion or not could be argued upon.

However the discussion has been worth it just for the final *sniff, toss ringlets in air* and flounce off like Violet Elizabeth 'so he was wrong just as you are' priceless.
