Just watched that goal back again and it's an absolute clusterfeck. Lazy tracking from Anderson to let his man inside, NKP strolls out of the back line for no reason and then walks back, in which time Chicksen goes towards the ball instead of staying with his man and then O'Donnell could've done better.

 

They did what they needed to win, no team has a 24 game unbeaten run through luck. They look a well coached and well drilled unit. I’d say a dead cert for automatic promotion.

 

That's bullshit ! chicksen or absolutely no help from OB in te first half .
He was marking 2 for the entire first half with no protection at all from midfield .
He ad a solid game last night.

 

Well clearly you and I are different in that respect. I'm all for friendly rivalries and "banter", but I'd much prefer to be in their position for playing good, attractive football - like Barnsley.

I berate the town and club because I lived there for 12 years, having only recently moved out. My opinions are based on first-hand knowledge.

 

Chickson is very very poor, Here is a summary of his play,

Receive ball wide and push forward,
Pass backwards
receive ball back
Pass sideways
receive ball back
pass backwards
receive ball back
Lose possession or pass to the opposition.

 

Not for me. He needs to study the Luton full backs.

If you were happy if Chicksen last night then it's no shock this club is second from bottom and looking likely to go down.

 

Although for our sake I wanted Peterborough to beat them I was amused to read that Ferguson berated the referee for awarding Wimbledon a soft penalty.

 

Agree mate.

Now he hardly crosses the half way line and processes a cross.

Not surprised by the result, Peterborough are a poor side. No coincidence they couldn’t beat us in a game in normal time this season.

 

They were indeed, shocking. Anderson wasn't far behind either.

We need at least 3 of a new back 4 next season. A couple of 6' 4 centre halves who'll head and kick anything that moves.

 

Pretty much every team from 7th to 14th has looked poor. Which sums up how atrocious we've been, that we're 4 points adrift from safety.

 

Indeed. It doesn't take miracles at this level, and even less so in League 2.

In the 6 seasons we've been at this level most recently, only 3 teams have really looked a cut above. Bristol City, Sheff Utd and Wigan. Barnsley look good this season but they're not at their level.

Most of the teams who go up from this league are based around being very solid defensively, good at set pieces in both boxes, have a physical edge to their game, good game management and just a touch of composure, cohesion and a shade of extra quality going forward - mostly based around good coaching and good partnerships in the final third.

If and when we go down, we need to be bold and follow Luton as a template. Not a massive squad - quality over quantity. Strong defenders, good width, a couple of midfielders who can work the ball well and strong forwards.

 

I think the last two performances prove the point

 

A centre forward that would kick anything above a blade of grass certainly wouldnt go a miss
L2 is a different ball game altogether
This summers recruitment is vital to our existence

 

True, we definitely need better, and more strength in the final third. A couple of wingers would be nice too.

Keeper gets a hand to a penalty and he’s unlucky but a free shot from 10 yards and he's supposed to ‘stop it more times than not’?

 

The problem I have with Chicksen, is that he just does the basics badly. His positioning is often out, his overlapping is minimal - but that's a little bit excusable because we don't have any width in the team, but it's his passing that infuriates me. If it's not passed backwards because he's run into trouble, it's pinged inside at 90 miles an hour to an unsuspecting midfielder. He did it yesterday a few time. A ball played sideways at full pelt, to Butterfield (who has a decent first touch) when he was surrounded by players. The ball was either taken off him straight away, or bounced off his shins it was hit so hard to him. Caddis on the other hand, always tries to cut inside the opposition players, and looks to play a lofted ball into space (sometimes an empty one), but is always looking to signal to who he's passing it to, and at least puts the occasional cross in, or looks to get to the byline.

And while we're at it. A word about NKP. He's back to his worst again. Misplaced passes, going missing from his designated position, and headers going straight up in the air, or coming off his head at a weird angle. I'm not suprised he chose to miss with his foot instead of his head when 2 yards in front of the goal. Probably would have gone over the stand.
