Looks like Sam Hornby is yet another poor signing by GB then.

Pop him on the list and file under Longridge.

With his loan just being extended I suspect you couldn’t recall him

Looks to have always done well everywhere he's gone. Out of contract at the end of the season, but is on 5K a week at Pompey. Rated highly by their fans, just the other lad Macillvray seems to have done even better.

He was at P'boro on loan from Spurs on a youth deal. Spurs released and Posh thought they had him signed on, him and his agent wouldn't entertain any offers under 5K a week. Posh chairman publically put it all on twitter when the fans were pissed off he signed for Portsmouth, criticising these young lads that leave prem clubs expecting big money when they haven't done much to note so far.

    6 loan players then.

Great seem situation as last season when all fit.

Might as well send one back.

I can't see that. Isn't it extremely common to have recall options on goalkeepers? Especially one who was supposedly second choice and just went on loan for match sharpness?

I read something the other day that Hopkin had arranged the Longridge signing before he was sacked? Could be wrong

I believe loans can’t be cancelled in the first 4 weeks. The extension of the loan will most likely count as a new loan agreement so the 4 weeks hasn’t expired.

Also I believe a cancelled loan doesn’t kick in until after the loaning teams next game so Sykes-Kenworthy would have had to play on Saturday anyway

*Edit* Trying to make sense of the regulations it seems Keepers may be exempt from the 28 day period where a loan can’t be cancelled. So maybe you could have brought Hornby back but I guess it means him not returning until after Saturdays game, then playing maybe 3 games by which point he can’t be loaned out again as it’s outside the window. With the window open it no doubt makes more sense to leave him and use the loan system

Everyone critical of GB yesterday because he had no GK cover and was scrabbling about trying to get one in. Signs one today and it's still not good enough because we have too many loans and somehow it makes Hornby a poor signing, The poor guy can't win.

Think Sykes-Kenworthy needs to be sent out on loan once OD gets fit again. Obviously not up to the task of first team keeper. I've read good things about him, but he should now be pushing for a starting spot somewhere if he wants to kick on with his career.

The poster had no substance to his opinion, he just took a wild guess speculating that Hopkin might have signed him. I’d be amazed it was true.

Not quite. The Hornby loan is between an EFL and a National League team and the NL is quite clear on when loanees can be recalled whether that's a short term loan or a long term one.. For a goalkeeper, the expected minimum loan period has to be 28 days from when the loan was extended. (I can't recall exactly when it was extended but sometime earlier this month). But in addition, if both clubs have already agreed this in the loan agreement, a GK can be recalled at any time irrespective of the 28 day rule and that's the more relevant part here.

It looks to me that either we didn't agree to include a recall option (which I think highly unlikely) or that GB just doesn't see Hornby as good enough for the No 1 spot and has chosen not to recall him. And that's what it looks like to me.

He's on a year long loan so unless we have a break clause we may not be able to.

I thought the window didn't apply to non league teams?

It makes Hornby a poor signing because even when our first choice is injured he still won't get a game.

What is the positive angle for that?

But, but Hornby came with such a glowing recommendation from Port Vale.

I remember plenty wanted him installed as immediate number 1 without even seeing him play. I wonder (apart from @Ricc@Ricc) if they still feel the same?
