Surprised we don’t have a Hanson statue already. I mean, is there any greater rags-to-riches tale at our club than the bloke that was playing local non-league while doing a few shifts in the co-op, but went on to beat Prem teams like Wigan, Arsenal, Villa, Chelsea (he also bagged vs Leeds in the derby cup game too) in those giant killing cup runs by the history makers (if you were at those games then you’ll never, ever, forget any of them……), earned a promotion in our colours and formed one of the most lethal modern day partnerships we’ve seen with Wells, then, to top it off, earned himself a decent-money move to the Championship Champions and got himself another medal there.

A great story, a nice lad, and a great tale to pass down through the generations, even though there was always some bizarre denial of his ability among our own fans! Not sure why. Jealousy maybe. Maybe bitterness he was slumming it on the local football scene like so many before getting his break.

Little things like this are great and it does add to the buzz around the place - the City painting on the corner at the start of Manningham Ln, the big advertising board on the walk down and there's been more effort made on the concourses - it really adds up.
Then there's other things like new player tunnel, painting the club shop/changing room corner of the ground and starting to replace the seats. All long overdue upgrades to the stadium that in the past were completely neglected. You can see the shift in thinking at management level and its very positive so credit where its due
There should always be some money in the budget for this sort of thing and hope there is more to come!

I'm not really sure why people don't like the words? I think this is quality and full credit to the club for the initiative. Absolutely love it, let's have more around the ground in future years.

 

Im a Hanson fan. He got far too much unjust hate from our toxic fanbase.

 

I love things like this. Things like this and the memorial(tragically) add a real identity to the stadium, instead of it just being a giant still structure. I’d love to add more and maybe statues of legends etc.

Adds real character to the place, much needed character at that.

James Hanson is as big a legend as Bobby & Stuart in my book (Haven't written it yet, but he will be when I do)

 

Looks awesome. Really like this. Well done to the club for recognising the opportunity and commissioning it.

 

The image is great, but I can’t say for the same for the wording. Grammar is off, and the flow isn’t good in my opinion.

 

At least one ..... wink wink. There's a guy works down the car wash, swears he's Elvis.

 

Now they just need to jet wash and touch up the filthy steps.

This is the chap.

 

Love it, will give supporters a little buzz before entering the ground. A real sense of belonging and inspiration before we walk through the turnstiles.

Next job is to give those steps next to it a lick of paint!

 

Hendrie, Bobby, Ces and teenage Stu were all before my time but I would acknowledge all are considered legends among the wider City fanbase for what they did for the club - I guess that’s why we have named bars and buildings after them.

It all boils down to how you define legend I guess, as to which of the Jewell side or history makers you’d debate would be possible ‘legends’.

The definition of legend on Google is “an extremely famous or notorious person, especially in a particular field”. But that’s too vague.

When you look back at our history 2000+, and think of big games, notable scalps, cup runs and promotions…..can anyone think of a player who features more than Hanson? i can’t. When you tell your kids and grandkids about Stamford Bridge, beating Leeds in the Cup, all of the scalps in the League Cup…..Hanson was there and a big part of those stories. He stepped up when we needed him.m, which is why players and oppo managers respected him.

i know he wasnt a product of our youth set up but he was a local lad, and that helps strengthen his case.
